High Definition

Post by poserboy71 »

Recently I did some work for my brother and he gave me a 52 inch flat screen television.
I have always steered clear of most advances in technology. I had a flip phone until last November until a friend gave me her old phone because she upgraded.
Anyway, I wanted to ask you forumites if you enjoy how high definition affects your enjoyment of new movies, and most importantly, your old favorites.

It has taken me a little adjustment to stop getting seasick while watching this newer T.V. .
Older movies have lost the charm and the covered-over filminess and are now VIDEOTAPE quality and clarity.
When the camera pans, it seems like people are floating.

I like the fact that I can see an old favorite in a different light, BUT, I also dislike how it has almost cheapened the original filmmakers intent.
Do you understand what I mean?

I figure that this is a topic that Dino can really shine on and teach me about why this is so.

You might be getting the dreaded "soap opera" effect! You'll have to play with the settings to get a picture you like. Older source material is always going to look a bit grainy on newer tech, especially blown up to 52". It'd look better on a PC monitor than on a huge TV. No doubt there'll be some info on how to adjust for your brand TV out there.

Still.......those new UHD TVs. Oh maaaannnn!! You can get within 2-3 feet of them and not see any "jaggies"! Of course that's with an UHD picture going into it, which there is no real content out there for them to make the most of! Bluray upscaling is reported to be very good though.

I'm a shocker for motion sickness but I've never got sick watching TV????

P.S. Dino new TV tech flame in 3, 2, 1............ :P :P :P

What brand is it Rick? When I got mine I disabled all the special motion and blur crap and have loved it ever since.

The default settings were terrible is what I'm trying to get at.

Everything is clear. I am just getting used to the floating aspect when the camera pans.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. There's almost a creepy quality to the way the camera pans and the way the actors seem to "float".

I agree rick. Hd tv's are shit. Tube is way better. Still most top film editors use crt tube tv's. I tested some high end ones that were ok and I do like the Panasonic plasma (not lcd). They did away with tube because too heavy and hard to make big flat ones but I believe lcd is terrible. They use the term hd like it's better but not in my opinion. Ok i don't mind apple monitors etc but nothing on lcd. Plasma way better than lcd but I think they stopped making them because heavy and expensive to make. Still Panasonic make them I think. They are only going to make the cheapest biggest lightest they can and then market it as better.
Rick I guess though some lcd are better than others. I stocked up on hd tube tv's inclusing new old stock ones as I hate lcd.

It's kind of like the difference between cd and mp3 or bigger difference actually. I saw 4k tv which is impressive but still has totally different feel to what we all know and love.

I don't watch porn but if I did it would have to be pre video tape or digital. 16mm film. I would only be looking at film characteristics, soft focus lenses and hairy arm pits... I suppose this is the story in boogie nights movie.

The Golden Age of Porn from the late 70's to the late 80's is my favorite time period. I must say that I have no issues with enjoying any era of porn though LOL :-)
