Hey all of you out in OZ, do you folks have black widow spiders there? We have lots of them here in California and depending where you are at we have some similar weather. Nasty little buggars!

Yep, No.2, 4, 6 & 7 in the world! Dannii & Vic have to watch out for the funnel web and redback! I've only ever seen one redback in my part of the country.

Keeping to just spiders I had never heard of most of those spiders on the top 10 list and never knew that there was a cousin of the black widow called a red back that is native to Australia.

Cool share Andrew!

There are, at least, 31 species of lactrodectus (widows) in the world. Down in Southern California, the brown widows are taking over. They have the same venom as the black widow, but they don't produce as much. People associate all widows with the black bulbous body, and there are black widows, brown widows, and red widows.

Anything with eight legs should be sprayed with Raid, and smashed into the bottom of a shoe several times!!!If its guts isn't ground into the floor or wall, then it's not dead enough.

Hah! I hear then tends to be a funny smelling haze surrounding Byron Bay!

Beautiful area though.

I don't mind spiders but not a fan of snakes.

Note to self, must send KMA a dummy spider for her birthday!

Hi Jen,
I've never seen a brown widow but i will certainly watch for them.
Andrew,
I have an acre and a half of property that I live on and there are spiders outside but we have an exterminator that visits once per month that does a great job of keeping them away from the house. In the summer I have to be mindful and aware to watch for black widows but so far that is all that I have ever seen where I live.

They look just like the black widows except for the color. Do you have these in Northern California?

When I worked at ACME in produce I found 2 black widows inside the grapes. We also had baby brown widow spiders inside them and there were so many we had to clean them by hand
