Re: Hellion
Always loved this tune and this guitar player
Re: Hellion
yeah, chet thompson was one of the greats. if you're interested, check out the 'chetthompsonguitar' account on youtube. it has some cool videos with the band world war 3 featuring mandy lion on vox. cheers!
Re: Hellion
Hey thanks I will do that. Did Chet play with Mandy Lion before or after Tracy "G" was the guitar player for WW3?
I'm a pretty big Tracy "G" Fan as he is a hard working dude who puts out about 2 CD's per year and runs a studio in the City of Industry which is about an hour West of where I live. He is very appreciative and good with his fans. I have talked to this guy for hours at times on the phone and it was great to hear his stories of travelling the world with the late great Ronnie James Dio.

Re: Hellion
it looks like maybe chet was in ww3 for just a little while, around 1988 or '89; then tracy g joined in 1990.
the only thing of tracy's i'm familiar with is dio's 'angry machines'. of that album, i remember thinking it wasn't really my thing, but whilst listening to it; was making mental notes on the incredible guitar playing -- not so 'melodic', but with a lot of really, really cool rhythms. so the thought process was kind of 'that's not the dio i'm into, but those rhythm guitar parts are spectacular.'
it looks like maybe hellion is back together, and with chet on guitar. i had heard that chet quit guitar at some point. maybe he started playing again? whatever the case with that, it appears that chet is running a recording studio, including teaching courses on 'engineering/producing'.
going back to the early '80s, i've read that chet was either a student of randy rhoads, or a teacher. the details aren't clear in my mind, but at some point, there was some interaction between the two of them. apparently both chet and randy both agreed on the 'thickening recording technique' where the guitarist lays down the exact same track, 3 or 4 times.

Re: Hellion
oh, that 'love you to death' is a great track. i lreally ike all of that - rhythm and solo - guitar playing! intense song...
edit: check this out from the youtube comments:
---lets see if i have the timeline correct. (1) Sean Kelley & Wendy Dio fire Ann Boleyn from Hellion; (2) After a legal fight, Boleyn keeps the Hellion name and hires Chet Thompson, Greg Pecka, and Alex Campbell: (3) Next Mandy Lion steals Chet Thompson, Alex Campbell, and Greg Pecka from Hellion; (4) next, Dio members (Vinny Appice, Jimmy Bain, & Tracey G.) replace Thompson, Packa, & Campbell. (5) Original members of Hellion join back up with Ann Boleyn. Damn the music business is funny! ---
question: if the original members of hellion joined back up with ann, was it after the turn of the century?
there are a lot of conflicting comments out there on how all of this played out. for example, 'chet quit guitar' and 'chet rejoined hellion in 2002'.
