Man, we are different which makes for a dynamic interesting world that we live in
Though my personal guitar interests are more similar to Vic's I definitely think that the Guitar World would surely be a boring place if we were all into exactly the same things and we would never learn anything new from each other. Dino, your an interesting dude from the musical and media things that you have done in your career, your cars and interests in these vintage styled guitars. Good for you man and I surely enjoy seeing something different. It's funny in life how are tastes as people evolve too. In my younger years I was very fascinated with Flying V's, Explorers, Firebirds, BC Rich Bich's and the various Dean Body Styles but alas in my middle age I'm much more interested in practicality in shape. Those styles that I mentioned are beautiful looking and easy on the eyes but today what I like is the practicality of a Strat Shape with great accessaries and a wild or great paint job.
Thank so much for sharing this new guitar line and it's fascinating to me that what is hip now is something that looks and sounds vintage but isn't and what about the craze of all these brand new guitars that look road worn.
Amazing

Thanks kev, thats real nice.
I like all the 80s stuff too. Don't forget from about 1992 to 2000 I turned exclusivly to jazz and then I came back again after that. That's why I missed the vv euphoria come back.
I think vintage guitars are not too different really. I would say the 80s guitars are more dynamic. I really like being limited by one thing rather than having endless sound options. I find it interesting to have to work with what I got. I got into basses as I got a gig with friends and I really like the 60s open sound best. Even for metal

I think 60s jazz stuff crosses over nicely to metal particularly bass and drums .

I agree with you. I love a nice ,acoustic-like, airy ,sound from a bass guitar. McCartney with a bit of gain.
Also, I love my twelve string bass !!!
Favorite bassists : Tom Petersson, Doug Pinnick, McCartney, Entwistle, also Sheehan.

Dino, this is the Charvel webpage.

The Pro Mods are now made in Japan, but I hear they play just as well as the USA ones, so I would get one myself not a worry.
Once set up they to play like an old friend and I'm loving mine, and it does make me want more!!
I too dig your varied and different tastes and styles, I just love a super strat the best these days.

Re: Fano Guitars
It is definitely interesting to read about everyones tastes in guitars, there are literally thousands to choose from which makes guitar collecting very exciting ( & expensive if you live in Australia).
I'm still stuck in the 80's with my taste. The pointier the guitar the more interesting as far as I'm concerned
I love Jackson Rhoads, Ibanez Destroyers, BC Rich Ironbirds, Explorers, Flying V's and of course Doubles V's! I enjoy radical shapes
something with dynamics and a good metal/ rock sound gets me rocking!!

Re: Fano Guitars
Things aren't too expensive these days. With our dollar so high and a store with a good shipping account you could buy a Pro Mod brand new for around $1000.
The clincher is the shipping, as some stores can send a guitar over here for $100, others maybe $200 and private individuals from $3-400.
I was keen to get that Moser Dino posted, would have been great but it was not to be.

Re: Fano Guitars
Yeah you are right Vic it's definitely more cost effective to buy now with our strong $$$, the Gold Rhoads anniversary model that i purchased last year only cost about $150 to ship from USA to oz so that was really good! Shipping cost will always be a major factor for me on whether to buy a guitar or not...

Re: Fano Guitars
At the higher end of the scale the shipping isn't a big deal, but when a guitar is $900, then $400 shipping is a large part of the cost, but often still makes the guitar cheaper than buying here.
I bought many a guitar from the US when our dollar was worth half and it was still cheaper. That was when I had more disposable $$$.

Re: Fano Guitars
Very true, and I probably would have still purchased the Gold Rhoads with higher shipping because I really wanted it and I highly doubt any Jackson dealers imported one into Australia in the first place
I was lucky though I won that guitar at an eBay auction as a brand new unused guitar from a music dealer in USA for less than half it's list price... Next purchase... TJ Double V! I want to eventually have a Rhoads done in the LIU pink as well...it's Vinnie mania here at the forum!

Sounds like a good deal you got on that gold baby!!!
I shudder to think at the price if an Aussie dealer did happen to have one, it would not be cheap, but they probably wouldn't sell it either.

Too true on both accounts. You love to shop local but sometimes.......Genebaby wrote:I shudder to think at the price if an Aussie dealer did happen to have one, it would not be cheap, but they probably wouldn't sell it either.
Those Fano guitars ain't my cup of tea either but can respect them. It's like the Maton electrics made in Oz that the guy in Queens of the Stone Age uses, they're a sort of tele/LP cross. I think they're kinda ugly but they play nice! Really nice neck.

Totally agree Kevin...My main music diet is Hard Rock & Metal...But even I get bored of the same thing & need to have a time out from banging my head. Man can not live on bread alone, sometimes a Fano can be a refreshing change.Slayer wrote:Man, we are different which makes for a dynamic interesting world that we live inThough my personal guitar interests are more similar to Vic's I definitely think that the Guitar World would surely be a boring place if we were all into exactly the same things and we would never learn anything new from each other. You may be right there Dino! The "new arrival 2010 LP" on the site looks to be one of China's finest!! The Gibson logo is smudged out in the pic.

Green Charvel
Dec 15, 2009 at 11:22 PM
This is my green guitar from Havin' A Bad Day. It is the first Charvel I ever bought. It has one of my favorite necks of all time. I spent a lot of time practicing on that guitar in my formative years!
It has had different pick ups in it from time to time. Currently it has a Blues Saraceno model pick up in the bridge. Other than that it is stock from the old factory in San Dimas California. I used to keep it tuned to and open E chord a lot in the early 90's. I wrote a few things of interest in that tuning. The tapping intro to FWAK from the Confessions album and the extrapolated version called Fwakstension on the Automatic record. I have no idea how to play either of those things at this point.

Hmmm, it seems real enough, the new Japanese made Pro Mods don't have pickup rings for the humbuckers anymore and feature chrome hardware. I prefer the pickup rings and black hardware, otherwise I am cool with the new ones.doublev wrote:I am thinking this may be not real . This one has the hang tag as well......I can see the Dunlop strap locks on it. I am guessing, without looking it up, that flat black is the wild card colour in the current or recent series.

Re: Fano Guitars
Hang on, I read it again, they are saying this one is a USA Charvel, but it has all the hall marks of a Japanese one. Something smells fishy!!
The Charvel's though are mentioned by brand, the LP's are not called Gibson, and yeah, the logo is smudged out.

Oh yeah Rick, Dweezil's guitar is famous in Charvel circles. There was a run of Green Slime Charvels a few years ago in honor of Dweezil's guitar.poserboy71 wrote:I always call the slime green Charvels "Dweezils" (Dweezil Zappa)Genebaby wrote:Check on Ebay Kev, you can find a Slimey one there quite often.

There's something about that colour. Steve Vai''s original Strathead Charvel he "borrowed" from Grover and never returned was a burst colour and he repainted it Green and used it until it fell apart. Too bad he lost a lot of his Jacksons and went to Ibanez.

Re: Fano Guitars
Hmmm...it looks like there is a last 8th batch of USA Charvels. My Flame Up is a limited edition of the 7th batch, which was the last batch before the Japanese production started.
I don't like any of this 8th batch. The 2 hum I would like with an all maple neck and I don't want the pick guard model or the flat black with chrome.
I wouldn't trust that site, it seems dodgy somehow.
