About 14 years ago, I was in a Kiss tribute band called Hotter Than Hell . They were based out of upstate New York. I went to this costume place called"The Costumer" to buy some Mehron makeup. As I shopped, I noticed a table in the back of the shop behind the counter that had a lot of cloth and materials on it.

What caught my eye was a vest made out of silver lame. I looked harder to find that it was an exact copy of what Ace was wearing on the Reunion Tour. I asked the manager if it was Ace's real costume and to bring it up front so I could see it and I was met with the response, "We have to respect the confidentiality of our customers" followed with a LOOK that told me it was the real deal.

A few years pass and a buddy of mine(who doesn't really play guitar) wanted to have an authentic Ace costume made. I told him about The Costumer and we called the shop. They were very surprised that someone knew that they actually made some of Kiss' costumes. They obliged my friend and made the costume for him but insisted that he not let the word get out because if it got back to Kiss, they might not do business with them again.

My friend insists on being authentic , so, we had to visit Pasquale DeFabrizio (Famous boot/shoe maker to the stars)in California and have him make the boots to go with the costume.
We went to a few Kiss shows together and he would wear that costume and have his Gibson Ace Frehley model Les Paul strapped on as well. Fucking nuts !!!

Great looking costume Tony and great story Rick. To be able to visit places Kiss had their stuff done, especially the boots, would be awesome. I can only dream from afar.

This guy is based in Texas, done some good work so thought i would give him a shot at it, the last guy in QLD sold garbage and i was most disappointed.

Sewing is not my forte, its a dude that does a lot of the trib bands costumes in the states.I had some work done by a guy in Brisbane and i was extremely disappointed, it fell apart first wear so i was pissed !

This is just for me but the guys will probably join me in this era costume,always loved the Ace Love Gun look.

More pics came today, its almost done and ready to ship to me, he dosent muck around !
So comes with body suit with Rhinestones, arm guantlets , body pieces and boot covers,made to your body size so its fits, its only been 2 weeks since i ordered it.

Did you special order the "rare" Love Gun " costume ??? That is the shiny lame costume used in a few photo shoots. Ace wore a different on on tour.

Yeah i think Wayne ( Small Stanley ) is getting a Paul Love Gun era suit from the same guy and we just sacked our drummer ( after a year of drama with him ) and slotted my cousin Brad in his place ( he drums like Mr E Singer ) so he will get whatever we have so pretty much Love Gun'ish look thats when we do full costume gigs,business suits are easier.
Doing new promo shots soon with of course the new drummer and the Tank Turret drum riser, going to set up a fake stage and do them that way ( flashing DTK sign, amps, all my Les Pauls behind me etc etc )

Ace looked good in 1996-97.
He was a bloated mess when he had to put it on for the DRC movie.

That is my friend Scott giving the thumbs up. I was in the tribute band Hotter Than Hell about a year before they were stand-ins for Kiss in this movie. Scott is a good guy yet he tended to take the Ace role to the extreme.

It amazed me how many ladies would suck off a pot-bellied Paul Stanley impersonator.
