Speaking of Paul Gilbert and Yngwie Malmsteen - I dig Paul's toned down version of this Yngwie tune. Paul is not a great singer but he stays within his range here.

Yngwie v Vinnie
Re: Yngwie v Vinnie
Some one mentioned Vinnie as a good fit for king Crimson .... That would be cool, I just learned Red this past week . Fripp is on another plane musically and I think him and Vinnie at the least could have some very interesting conversations. Fripp is using Octatonic scales and moving tonic on Red its just way beyond my understanding what exactly is going on there theory wise. I think would be very interesting to see what would come from that collaboration.

Re: Yngwie v Vinnie
I say next to Fripp on an airplane. He wasn't super nice but hey it was an airplane and I was a kid. He was super socialist and would only fly economy. I remember he would not play a gig if anyone in the crowd was smoking. It was part of the contract that the venue was all non smoking or he would walk.
Bye Bye
Re: Yngwie v Vinnie
Fripp use a different tuning too. Some of the concepts he wrote about in his guitar craft articles were really interesting.Sometimes you have to go past his quirkyness to find some great stuff.
