I played in a few bands the worst being a gwar type band called phlem. Also a thrash band called over blow. Also in high school played with a guy who is now in kneebody. Nearly joined baton rouge ( was one of 3 guys) but was too young and they went for another guy because I found it hard playing the samething twice.and also nearly joined lord tracey but ended up not moving to Dallas, I remember learning black page, lol.

I have some crazy pictures of me looking like a long haired karate kid with my Ritz guitar collection if I get the courage to post them.
Impressed with all the bands. I love sammys band, he does such a great gene Simmons impression too.

My first band was called Jet Black and we tried to be straight up rock, then I formed Hounds of Hell which was trying to be NWOBHM, then I formed Meliorate which was thrash, then External Ruin which was metalcore, and my last band which we played our first and last show on Friday was called Empty Resources and we were what I would call progressive hair metal. After graduation I'm putting the guitar down and quitting music.

We as musicians never get the recognition, or the pay, we're entitled to. It's not worth it. All the friends I got were from me being me, not from playing in a band. The media glamourizes the music industry and makes kids think that if they have a dream then they can make it big when they can't. I don't want to end up like Anvil and have 15 people in the whole world know who I am and play to empty houses.

All of us play for different reasons. I'm sorry that you can't find the reason that fills your heart.

The media glamorizes fame and the journey to the top as do some of the artists that make it also... The amount of times that you read people saying if you have a dream then follow it because you can make it happen... Blah, blah, blah... Such a small percentage actually do realize their dreams and taste success...
But it also depends on the individual, not everyone can be a Rolling Stone but some may be content with being in an Anvil and have passion for what they are trying to achieve... It's an on going struggle for 99% of the many talented people in the music industry that don't get much recognition & there is a lot of good fortune involved as well... Would Kiss have hit it Big without Bill Aucoin? Would we have ever heard of Vinnie Vincent had he have never met Gene Simmons to collaborate on some songs?? There is definitely a lot of luck involved in making it...Passion for what you do should keep you going though...

My greatest success is being a 39 year old father of two who plays guitar because he likes it. The biggest reward is seeing my kiddies face when I play something they know and they sing to it. That is far better than any dream of fame I ever had.
My son wants to play now. Not to be famous, but because it is fun to share music with people you love.

Yes, as long as playing is fun that's all that matters. My daughter loves it that I play as well.
Playing for your kids is great. I have played live and I enjoy that too but I'm not going to kill myself to become famous, that's not a big part of my playing at all.

I joined a "punk/alt" band in college playing drums...which I had pretty much just started playing. The band was called LIZARDS FROM AFAR.
http://www.lizardsfromafar.com
We did that for 3 years until I graduated, then we all went our separate ways.
About 4 years ago we re-grouped and began recording new material online by sharing tracks over FTP. Our sound is still punk/alt, but a bit more polished now.
We have over 30 songs (some good, some bad, some demo quality, some pretty good quality) available to listen or download for FREE here -

If you like "pop" music, that's our most popular songs by counting listens & downloads:
Giant Robot
Way Back (Mr. Peabody)
I Hate Everybody
Just A Girl
Dance Theodora
If you like "heavier" stuff, you might like:
202330
My Collection
Poster Child [a song about 80s metal]
Powder Keg
Gunslinger

Phlem! I love it!

The ship sailed, as far as a band was concerned. I couldn't find anyone serious enough.
I did have a name chosen ... the Paranormals.
I played bass at the time and had about 100 songs. They made a great bonfire when the day came that I realized that I had another life purpose.
