Band news

Hi guys, the latest and greatest news on my band Mattersphere.

First, the fantastically talented Streetbeat Sammy is building us a website.

This is the place marker for it: http://www.mattersphere.com.au/

Will let you know when it's ready.

I was going to release a song but our singer wants to wait until the video is done and have them out at the same time.

There has also been a personnel change, with our other lead guitarist being replaced. The new guys was actually involved with the band before but could not commit time wise but now he's available again and it looks like he'll be re-recording the lead work already done.

Our producer is in the US right now and he's been plugging our stuff and peole like it except the lead work. They do know of Jason (the new guy) and liked his work before so it's cool we are able to get him in.

I've met him once before at a jam session I turned up to and he seemed nice and had just gotten his new custom ordered Les Paul Custom, which you can see in the video. He's the guy on the right side of the screen obviously.

He blows the other guy out of the water, and he was really good to, I did like his style but things will be better now I think. It's just one of those things.

So, it's a bit boring at the moment, not being able to showcase any music but it should be coming shortly and we need to start getting some more stuff down.

I look forward to playing with Jason, I know he now uses an Axe-FX unit and I am really digging my new Pod HD500, the JCM800 amp in it is fantastic, I think it will be my main one, though I've also got a few Dual Rectifier ones to try.

I'll know better next jam how they will work with the full band.

Ooh, that's not a video of us, that's a band called Live Evil which do shows of metal covers. They are doing a show of the Big Four this weekend which he's preparing for.

That's them a little while ago doing Hangar 18. The singer is a mate of mine who also plays fantastic guitar but concentrates on singing for the tribute shows.

We're going to learn a set of covers for corporate shows and concentrate on the originals after that.

Yeah sorry, I didn't realise it wasn't too clear that the video wasn't us. It's just a showcase for Jason, doing all the Marty stuff. It's gonna be cool to play with him.

So is this Mooseknuckle re-branded????

Ah, Mooseknuckle is the name for doing covers shows. Mattersphere is the name for originals.

We exist on two astral planes, but not at the same time.

Well, with Jason on board the guitar is possible, he could do that no problem. The vocals might be an issue. Our guy is a high singer for a guy, but not in the same league as it was in the 80's with Robert and Mark.

Vocals would be a big problem, though cool covers that we like, like VVI, would be suitable for gigs playing originals as a bit of fun.

Well, you could always do "Back on the Street", Vinnie's vocal style. I don't think that's high-pitched enough to be an issue...

Maybe...

I would have to convince the other guys not to do stuff like Panama or Crazy Train, cool stuff like that.

BOTS would be doable though, yes.

Hybrid Norum/Vinnie would still be way cool!

Let your singer use some helium =D then sing like Robert!!
Btw you don't need to sings songs exactly in the same range/octaves/whatever as the original..just a thought
Remember the Boys R Gonna Rock demo with Vinnie on vox ;)? I love the demo more than the album version!!
Vinnie's a great singer too

Had a little jam session with Jason, he played a cream 70's Les Paul he recently got, for the Randy vibe, which I approve of. It was very cool and I am looking forward to the band jam on Tuesday.

He's into a lot of stuff but hadn't heard much VVI stuff so I am going to introduce him to the magic that is VVI.

How about just rollin' some tape and posting some audio samples (not full songs, of course) for us VVFFr's to hear you jam?

Our bass player has a digital recorder. Our aim is to record some covers for the Mooseknuckle side of the band to use as a demo for corporate gigs, so if those work out, which they need to, I'll be able to post them for sure!

Ok, some cool developments today. Firstly, I am allowed to let the video clip out, so here it is below! For those that don't know I'm the guy on the right playing the Yellow Flame Up Charvel.

Also found a place we should be able to use to record our rehearsals, so that should make a nice demo of the covers for us and also a good indication of how our originals are progressing. Any ideas will be saved for the future.

Thanks. :D

It was a first for all of us so looking forward to perhaps doing it again. People seem to like the song and the two people acting are local Canberra people. I didn't get to meet them unfortunately.

Nice voice! Is that the Yami acoustic? If so it sounded great.

The Yamaha is in the background and I will use it next time as needed but that is my friends Seagull on the recording. I had already borrowed it with new strings and started tracking with it, which is what got me started to finally buy a decent acoustic for myself.

As we'd started with it we kept using it. It is a nice sounding guitar.

It's good to have a singer that can actually sing, it's hard to find one of those in Canberra!

I could really use a long-hair wig... and a flying V guitar, xD

Then the CIRCLE WILL BE COMPLETE!

ANYWAY, awesome song dude. I liked it a lot. If the covers sound this good and with this much quality, you can have all of my moneys.

Nice Vic!
I missed this post at 1st. I like the 80's groove, your flame Charvel and the singer!

Great job!

Kev

P.S. - I have a Flame Kramer with the hockey stick headstock that is pretty cool but I like your Charvel more. :-)

Hey, I know, I know. Posing is not my forte and it was hard to get into the "groove" for this shoot, all very alien to me.

The directive was "play like you were playing a gig to a full house etc"....but do that while we have you standing unnaturally in these positions we want for the camera, ha ha.

I am not a natural like Randy, he OWNED the stage!!!

Thanks Kev, we all like the 80's (who'd have guess it?) so that's what we're aiming for as it's in our blood.

Have I seen your Flame Kramer? That Charvel is my main player, hoping the black one will join it soon as another favourite.

For the next video, pretend you are making sweet love to your wife. I am told you will only have 10 seconds of screen time in a 5 minute video.

Thanks for the kind words.

There's nothing wrong with garage demos man, it's the music that matters. This was all recorded digitally with the aim of getting some label interest. We shall see what happens. I just want to play.

Just play it loud!!!!!

He was loving it and a lot more was recorded of him playing but it's been toned down due to him leaving I think. Never mind, more of the chick!!!

Ok, thread mine.

While we're here let's update. Our producer is back from the US and has soured on us a little as we don't like to do everything he says/suggests.

To that end he's returned and hasn't been able to give us the other three songs recorded due to a "licensing" problem with his software. He's been waiting weeks for a key. Bullshit, that stuff gets emailed out in hours.

We just want to hear the end result of the other three songs and then Jason, the guitarist mentioned above will go in and redo the lead work though it looks like he won't be joining the band, doesn't want to be in the next video even.

The problem with that is that the producer also says his desk has a problem so he can't use it, which is also crap as the desk and software are his bread and butter.

So the originals part of the band is still seeking a guitarist and the plan for covers is just to do it as a four piece with me only on guitar, which I am fine as I'm used to that.
