Holy cow! Every week I watch the TV show Wipeout with my son. This week one of the contestants is/was Tod Howarth...of Frehley's Comet! The hosts dubbed him the aging rocker!
I only ever liked the Strike Your Drums song of his on the first album and hated almost everything on Second Sighting...but did anybody hear his song California Burns from the Ace Frehley tribute album? It was kind of awesome!

You mean "Calling to you" from the first Comet-album!
Haven't heard that song, but I'll se if I can find it somewhere!

I dig Tods songs on the FC albums. Good to see he's still around.

I didn't mind him either! He could sing and play guitar better than Ace!

Always been a fan of Tod's voice. I've never heard his solo stuff. He's messaged me a couple of times on MySpace which I thought was cool.

I have listened to that "California burns"-song now, and it wasn't really my cup of tea. Too much 90's grunge-sound for my taste. I prefer the more melodic stuff Tod did with Comet!

Anyone knows if he recorded anything similar-sounding after he left Ace?

He's done 2 or 3 solo albums since leaving. I've only heard the California Burns song. (Which I found a nice mix of melodic and grunge influence.) He was back with 707 for a while. (Thoughts about that 727?) he was also recording demos for a soft-rock, adult-contemporary album he was trying to shop around.
I used to love Tod's input on The Comet when I was young, but when I listen now I hear how nasally he was singing to hit the high notes. I don't think his style matched well with Ace either. Even as a kid I recognized Second Sighting was a mess!

I spoke with Tod via email several years ago. I expressed my appreciation for him carrying the lyrical load during Frehley's Comet and we spoke about a Comet reunion (which at the time he was all for). I was supposed to send him some cash for a couple cds and got busy w/other stuff and forgot about it......need to look him up again

Much respect for Mr. Howarth (if only a certain guitarist could communicate with the fans as well).
And yes, Tod has done a few solo albums, from what I gather, in house type productions......as he told me, no tri-fold covers or anything :p

If you could order them on Amazon or iTunes, I would get them. I'm not saying I hate Tod's contribution to the Comet, I just don't think his stuff has aged that well. I still crank it up in the truck from time to time.
I liked the California Burns song a lot for the vocals since they were much less nasally. I wonder what the new album sounds like. Anybody heard?

Perfectly stated Andrew! It's the truth!
