I still don't understand it when some people say that Vinnie didn't fit in Kiss' front line on stage.

Eric Carr was the only one I remember saying that... because Vinnie was much shorter than Gene and Paul I guess (unless you count the Creatures era when they could kinda even up the heights with the platform boots).

There was a Creatures show review that mentioned Vinnie being smaller or shorter than Paul and Gene. I guess he was a departure from when Ace was in the band but come LIU shows there wasn't much in it.

Yeah kinda ironic that the shortest KISS guy ever (Carr being 5'4"... think he was an inch or two shorter than Singer even) was unhappy with Vinnie's height (who is around 5'7). What's odd is Paul without heels or booots is only around 5'10"... not THAT much taller than Vinnie.

I guess what was the go with Gene and Paul was they were beefier guys. Like when they were sorting out their look dressing up like the NY Dolls didn't look right as they weren't as slight as the Dolls, so they looked like football players in drag.

I guess Vinnie would have done the Dolls thing better, much as he ended up doing in VVI.

He suit kiss very well & he had the 80's guitar hero look down! Attitude, talent, looks, cool... He just had it...& kiss let it go...

he fitted better than Peter and Ace without make up would have. No way could Kiss have survived with Ace and Peter in the 80s without make up. I think they could have emerged in the 90s but I just dont see Peter and Ace doing it unmasked for the kids.

I agree with Peter not cutting it in the 80's, he just didn't fit but I think Ace would have worked well in an unmasked kiss.. He had some really cool demo material in the mid 80's...

Looks and sound-wise, Peter would have fit if KISS would've went a more straightforward rock direction (you didn't see Aerosmith going metal and replacing Joey Kramer) but Paul and Gene wanted to be more of a metal band and Carr fit that perfectly. Ace could've pulled it off... some of the Frehley's Comet stuff was close to metal-sounding. Maybe if Ace would've stayed and Vinnie never joined, Paul wouldn't have had such a desire to have a shredder-type guitarist?

Exactly PW.. Kiss would have still succeeded had Ace have stayed, his influence would have kept them closer to their 70's sound...I think a lot of their success in the 80's was attributed to their ability to move with the trend and stay more contemporary.. They picked up a whole new audience but alienated their old fans...
