L.A. GUNS 12.15.2011

Saw these guys at Penny Road Pub the other night.
They were great and everyone had a great time.
This is the PHIL LEWIS version of L.A. Guns.
Phil announced from the stage that the band would be heading into the recording studio for a new album due sometime in the summer of 2012.
He also announced that Kelly Nickels would be rejoining them again in the new year.

Set List:
Over The Edge
Sex Action
Never Enough
I Wanna Be Your Man
Vampire
My Koo Ka Choo
Nothing Better To Do
Sleazy Come Easy Go
Showdown
(guitar & drum jam)
Electric Gypsy
Ballad of Jayne
Rip and Tear

Songs written on the set list but crossed out and not played -
Gypsy Soul, Hellraisers Ball and It Don't Mean Nothing.

I saw the Tracii Guns version about a year back.

I saw the original line up back in the 80s opening for VINNIE VINCENT so I guess you could say I came full circle!

It's too bad Tracii quit back in the day ....

...while I enjoyed seeing his version of LA Guns (w/Jizzy Pearl on vocals at the time) I feel the Phil Lewis version is better. They could've played a few more tunes last night though.

Funny quote of the night (paraphrasing a bit here...)

Phil Lewis: "Okay, we're gonna play our one hit now.... (crowd cheers but many a fan exclaims that's it's not the band's only hit) ... that's okay, at least we had a hit. That's more than Pretty Boy Floyd can say."

(crowd howls in laughter)

Phil: We love those guys, they're good guys but the truth isn't always pretty is it? This song we used to love and then we hated it for awhile but now we're good friends again. This is the ballad of Jayne.....

(crowd goes nuts)

I almost forgot to mention that Tommy Holland was at the Penny Road Pub show so it turned out to be somewhat of a Bzz reunion what with Steve Riley being there as well.

I like the set list, lots of songs there I know and like.

I didn't like Jizzy in Ratt at all, not so sure about him singing Guns tunes either. Phil, to me, is the voice of La Guns.

Too bad they can't get along, they'd be a much stronger unit if they could get back together.

did you see VVI and LA Guns in Chicago?
Can you review the show and let us know how busy it was ? Its kind of a black hole when it comes to attendances on the VVI ASG tour.
Was it equal with VVI fans and LA Guns fans?

Thanks strangeways.

Actually, I'm working on a long thread about just that very thing (next year will be posting that) .

I did see Vinnie w/LA Guns in Chicago @ the Vic (still have the ticket stub).

It was pretty equal in terms of fans from what I remember.

LA Guns were shit faced from what I remember.
Myself and a few others got there very early to be one of the first in line.
LA Guns got there in a limo and came tumbling out of it.

I remember that Vinnie came before the other guys in the Invasion and was polite and thanked us for coming out. The rest of the guys in the Invasion came a little bit after him and also thanked us for coming out.

Wish I had brought my camera.

Trying to locate a friend of mine that might have taken pics (long shot).

Both bands were great but from what I remember Vinnie did not play Love Kills like we all thought he would for an encore, but played Let Freedom Rock instead. I could be wrong on that but that is what I remember.

Vinnie was the headliner although I think both bands played about the same length of set.

It was pretty full from what I remember.

As I said it really sticks in my memory that they didn't do Love Kills, but I could be wrong.
I'm pretty sure about it though.

I had an opportunity to see W.A.S.P. and L.A. Guns (Phil's guns) a few years ago but right when I found out they were sold out. I cried. Cause I wanted to go so bad. But this year already sounds like its going to be a hot concert year. Already I have plans to see KISS and W.A.S.P. :D

I saw L.A. Guns when they opened for Def Leppard. They kinda blew Leppard out of the water as far as energy and intensity.

Wow, Def Leppard & L.A. Guns together. Phil Collen & Phil Lewis got history. The british glam band 'Girl'

Girl did the song 'My Number'

which was later covered by Lillian Axe

I love the band 'Girl.' Always liked Phil Lewis and thought it was really neat that Phil Collen was in the band too. :) Two Phils. haha. I have the 'Sheer Greed' album by Girl on vinyl. Sounds really great. :D
