I say Eric Carr because of how hard he actually hit the drums. :)

Me too. It is so powerful. I wish I could have seen the lineup with Vinnie and Eric live, but I wasn't born yet. The drums alone would have probably rattled the whole venue.

Peter because he was so unique in the 70s . He had a different mind set and played songs differently to how they should be played. I think rock n roll all night would have been dead with an eric singer style playing.
BUT Eric always had an amazing sound.
It's hard to say because I think peter was the best for 70s and Eric for the more modern sound.
I know singer is a good drummer but I don't like the sound that comes off his sets for what ever reason.
Peter after the early 80s I am sorry to say suffered big time with his drum sound for me.

I'm with Dino. The original Kiss stuff was magic because of Peter's drumming. As a guitarist I love the drumming on that old stuff, and even before I played guitar the drumming really stood out to me as a favourite part of the Kiss sound.

Eric Carr was much better suited to the 80's material, he was perfect there, his sound and playing were just what those songs needed. Peter would not have done as good a job though it would be damn interesting to hear Peter's take on some of those songs!

I like both peter and Eric Carr I heard Eric play live before hearing peter. Even though hearing Beth is what made me a kiss fan. I was always. Into Holly hobbies if you don't know the name it was a girl thing she always hide her face and then when I saw kiss. Never show there face and it was my first band I like.

One question , did they ever bring in other drummers on any of the Eric Carr albums like they did to peter on dynasty?
I didn't actually mind peters sloppy style on out of control either , his drums still sounded good . I always loved the pearl Jupiter cob snare drum he played . I think peter got worse the better he got if you know what I mean.
Peter is all about heart and that's what he gave kiss, an unsung hero to me , a more technical drummer would have butchered those early kiss tunes for me.

Drummers are going to hate me but I don't know what all the fuss about dw drums are. I like the pedals but the drims sound shit to me. I like some of the really big ones they made and the classic sets but I dont think peter sounded good on into the void or the psycho circus tour, very generic sounding. The symphony set sounded a little better but I think it was a dw classic set. Camco the early versions of dw are much better to me.

Eric was replaced on some songs and parts on The Elder, his first album for Kiss!! Understandable cause it wasn't really what he signed up for, a strange concept album. He was in his element for Creatures and after that.

So after the elder was it all Eric. I heard that the guy who drummed on the peter criss solo album says he drummed on animalize.. is that a mistake on my behalf ?
As for creatures I think the kiss producer was a drummer so this may have helped Eric too.

Allen was the guy I remember that did the work on The Elder. Eric couldn't do the stuff they wanted for the songs. I don't remember hearing about anyone else doing drums on Animalize.

Don't really know who "the best" is, but my fave is definitely the Fox:

Many people say technically the best is Singer but he sounds the worst to me. That said all their drummers are good. I like Singer when he over plays on the Paul Stanley tour and the Badlands stuff was really good. I just think the 90s and 2000s generated bad sounding drums so maybe I should be kinder to Singer.

Eric was replaced on two songs form "The elder", notably "I" but it was about copping a feel, more than technical issues.Alan schwarztberg played on those songs and also contribute on some fills and overdubs on "Animalize".Again from what i've understood from various interviews it was a matter of deadlines(Paul and Gene were working in two different studios).Kevin Valentine played on some demos for "Hits", same for Eric Singer. Some of the demos ended up on the recod, aswel as a song with a drum machine.Singer stated tha t carr rerecorded his parts(the bigg issue was the "forever" single.

In the 1981 MD interview Peter was adamant about tryng to play with feel and following more the lead guitar than the rythm and the bass.I loved Pter drunnign in the 70's, his solo on Alive is very groovy and tha t for me sts it apart from other more proficient drummers.
Eric carr was great, ive seen it on Donington 88 and ,for me he was the best muscian tha t day(not a small feat considering the players on tha t day-guitarist included). Why?One word: emotion.
You could sense how much feel and emotion he put into his playng. And that, for me, is the most important thing about being a musicain, much more than techical prowess.
I agree with Dino, i've never liked Singer sound and style, especially the sound.I already knew him from the wonderful "Live in Stockholm" by the late Gary Moore. When i've known he wsas the new kIss drummer i've cringed.Asmuch as i can understand that he's a very good drummer- and he shows that on "unplugged", his playng doesn't move me.
Technically, however, i think the best was Anton.

Shall we count kevin too? ;)

Might as well considering he played on Psycho Circus and was in the running for KISS' drummer with Singer (Paul's choice) and Ken Mary (Gene's choice).

Ken Mary was signed to Simmons records.
I never heard Mary was in line but dean was mentioned for sure as pretty much having the gig. Eric singer said andre Labelle was also being seriously considered

I remember reading about the Ken Mary thing way back in '91/92. House of Lords had already ended by that point anyway and his name was brought up. In my mind, Singer seemed like a shoo-in since he already played with Paul.

That would've been cool. Gene did mention that they almost hired a Jimi Hendrix lookalike guitarist in '73 but then decided against it. Hell, by '92 they were willing to go with a blonde drummer so they could've went with an African-American drummer... at least he had black hair... 8)

if i remember correctly,Paul chose to ask to Singer for his solo tour after knowing that he had played with Gary Moore.(something along the lines of "if he was good for gary Moore...").
Funny that they didn't call Bobby Rondinelli..........

Just read this back... I wasn't saying Atma looked like Hendrix. Just pointing out that however anal KISS was about the image, they could have potentially went with a band member of another race because one of the first guitarist they considered before Ace was black.

The original KISS songs would've just thudded without Peter bringing his "jazzy" style. But as a jazz drummer playing hard rock, he was less technical skill and more balls to the pedal gonzo fury...which is something he doesn't have the fortitude for at 64.

Eric Carr was like liquid on the drums. So smooth but powerful. Perfect for the pop-metal of the 80s. I think he would've adapted well after, unlike Peter on similar material.

Eric Singer IMO isn't right for KISS. He keeps good time and does complicated fills but overplays for the the band's style of music. (I dug him in Badlands.)

Th worst I heard Eric S. was the re-recorded kiss album a few years back.
What I don't understand is in an interview in modern drummers back when psycho circus came out peter went into detail about the drumming on the tune psycho circus saying he was very proud of what he did on it.

Hell, poor Peter prolly STILL thinks he played on all of PC, Dynasty and Unmasked...

I read an article from years after Peter left where he said he had recorded drums for every song on PC and was happy with the outcome. Then Gene, Paul and Fairbairn replaced him with Valentine without letting him know. That was the big reason he was unhappy on the Psycho Circus tour.

So, if that's true, there's a version of PC somewhere with Peter playing drums...like the "collectors version" of Raise Your Glasses.

in the modern drummer article he went into detail about the drumming on the Psycho Circus tune. Either the interview was before he knew or he had some sort of contract that he couldn't let on that he wasnt the drummer.

I'm not a fan of the song Psycho Circus. It's "OK", but as soon as I heard it I knew it wasn't Peter drumming. It also feels really patchwork to me...like they had disparate ideas for different parts of the song and forced them together and figured out a way to make to make it work. I think it sounds very clumsy live.

Has anyone heard the "Collectors Version" of RAISE YOUR GLASSES? I think that version is Peter playing drums, but I have never been able to find anything that verifies it.

I don't hate the song. I listen to it when it comes on the player during shuffle. I've heard a few people that really think it was great. KISS has a lot of great songs...and Psycho Circus is not one of them.

I remember how bad PC sounded the first time my Kiss band tried to play it in 99, but it got a lot better and was fine by the time we did it live at a show. I was the only guitarist as well.

In 2000 I went to a dinner show thing at a place called Draculas, some of the Aussie guys may know it, and they used PC as a song in their show. I was quite surprised.

I have a funny story about peter during the reunion tour. My girlfriend at the time roomed with.a stripper. Peter went into the strip club in New Orleans the night before the gig at the superdome. He got friendly with most of the girls including my girlfriends room mate. He told them they all would have tickets and back stage passes to the show. The next day the showed up at the stadium and peter hadn't put them on the list. Haha.

All of the Psycho Circus album sucked infected taint except the song Dreamin... and they got sued by Alice Cooper's people for that one because it was kind of a ripoff of I'm Eighteen.
