it has been published on the genesimmons.com as well on many kiss fan sites,but here it is, where i put it many years ago.I found it on an old magazine article on southamerican culture.
It must be said that Peter let a makeup artist do it for him on that cover, it wasn't his idea.

Yes, strangest thing that he was the only one who let someone else do it, and then everyone let the photo be taken rather than Peter re-doing it properly.

peter explained that in a interview.Contrary to what Gene was sayng for years, the photographer didn't propose to them to hold ballons.

So did the makeup style Peyer was doing himself also based on this mask, or did the photographer just use it, as it's pretty much what he did.

as far as i know, Peter designed the cat makeup based on his family cat,Mateus.According to a dennis woloch int., the silver nose was added later during another photosession.
I can only speculate and think that the makeup artist knew this mask and tried it on Peter.But, you know, each kiss fact has so many different spins on it .It would be intersting to ask to the makeup artist himself, if he's stil alive and if he remembers.

I had read that the make-up artist and photographer talked Peter into the change.
I never bought into that story. After almost a year of refining the make-up, basing it off of his pet cat and it having a "family" look with the other 3 designs...why would they change it on a whim the day of the photoshoot for their first album cover?

My guess is that there's a story not being told or lost to history.

My POV is that the change sucked. It was too complicated and didn't match the other 3.

No doubt, Peter looks like crap on that cover, but how the hell did everyone involved let it happen?

Knowing Peter he was probably being a prima donna and said "I've hit the big time now" (even though they hadn't)... "and I'm using a makeup artist."

well, on the kissfaq.com there was a story about a half moon shaped guitar made for paul that he liked to the point of wantiong to change his makeup to a star and a half moon.Since people persuaded him that it would look a bit to much like a muslim flag, he then gave up and tried, alsoafter some insitstence from Neil Bogart, if i'm correct, the "bandit" makeup for about a photsession and two shows, before going back the star( an idea suggested by Ace, who suggested two stars-paul-it seems out of laziness- only used one).

Yes I've heard that half moon makeup story before (suggested by Aucoin?) A half moon over one eye instead of the star would've been cool (gold to counter Ace's silver?) I guess Paul would've been the "Wizard" then? I always thought it was odd that Paul designed Carr and Cusano's makeup but Ace designed Paul's. I believe Ace also suggested that one star cover both eyes over the bridge of the nose as he said Paul looked like Petey the Lil Rascals dog with the circle around his eye he first wore.
