Yes, yes, another thread about the mighty, mighty tune Lick It Up.

Kiss played it on their second night on Dancing With The Stars (a show I have never watched before).

The first night they played Rock and Roll All Nite, a Kiss classic without a doubt.

For their encore performance they chose Lick It Up. From their entire catalog of songs they chose Lick It Up to play to a supposed audience of millions. Do that many people watch this show?

On the Kiss Kruise's electric show they also played LIU amongst a set filled with early 70's songs not heard for a long time and some not heard before live.

What are they trying to tell us? Is Lick It Up THAT good?

I of course love it for it's absolute fantastic groove and simple yet super catchy melody.

What do you think Kiss are trying to say? The could play ANYTHING and they've been choosing LIU a lot lately, and to play it as one of two songs for a television audience is a pretty big tip of the hat to this tune I think.

For a couple of guys that hate Vinnie so much they are playing his most famous song a lot.

My new theory: the bankruptcy suit has gone through. KISS won. Vinnie's royalties are now being garnished until the 80K in court & lawyers fees he owes KISS is paid off...or worse, Gene and Paul were granted full ownership to cover Vinnie's debts. And now they are playing his song all over the place just to fuck with him!!!

Yes, that could be it. It's a top song but has been a strange choice in recent times in the context it's been played in.

You have to wonder how much Kiss are in LOVE with it versus fucking with Vinnie.

The song is great. Isnt it a song that has been a part of their setlist since it came out?

It was gone during the first few reunion tours and then came back along with Heavens On Fire and I Love It Loud, much to the annoyance of Ace and Peter.

Gene and Paul clearly wanted to do some of the 80's songs and that has expanded a little again since both Ace and Peter left.

Lick It Up keeps popping up where you don't expect it.

When watching the Kruise video and hearing all those OLD songs it was a major surprise to hear Lick It Up!

Vinnie should get a pay day for that.

Which song sticks out like dogs balls? ALL songs from 1974-76 and up there near the end? Lick It Up from 1983! C'mon, that's pretty strange don't you think?

The reason they use lick it up is because you can sing along without knowing the song.

I think it IS strange. They have so many great songs and they have been shaking up the set-list regularly. So why Lick It Up? Heavens on Fire and Tears are Falling we're bigger hits and, arguably, better songs. WHY keep going back to LIU?

True, but I just think they consider it a Kiss classic. They only ever stopped playing it for a fairly short time and that was because the reunion had to focus solely on the classic lineup songs.

Love Gun or Shout It Out Loud would have been more typical choices for DWTS after Rock and Roll All Night.

LIU is very left field.

Still, I hope it gets people wondering and checking out the song and album and discovering a fantastic Kiss album.

Wish they would get rid of LIU and most of all there songs and play some real classics, fuck change your set list KISS. Sick of the same shit over and over through the years. Bring back All Hells Breaking Loose, Thrills In the Night. Do a song you never have played Danger. Do something different already !!!!

I've been watching more classic shows on Youtube and Kisstory.

In the classic shows those guys were all over the stage. Dancing. Running. Jumping. Paul shaking his shoulders. Gene kicking in the air. They all work tight spandex outfits and Gene had armor on the top half after the mid-70s...but still some chest revealed. The songs were super-hyper.

In the last 3 years watch them. They move slowly across the stage. Paul doesn't jump anymore. Gene looks like he's wearing a couch on his chest...but that's in order to get the fake chest he wears to stick out past his gut. They barely jump or dance anymore. When they do the syncopated "dance" moves and whip their heads from side to side, they barely sway. The songs are played slower than on the albums. Who plays the song in concert SLOWER?

All I'm saying is watch TWO concerts back to back. 1 classic first, 1 current last.

Then try to tell me they still have it. It's good for two 60 year olds and two 50 year olds, but it's not good enough for the legacy of KISS.

I didnt mind stuff from the Sonic Boom album, was nice to hear new stuff but, I can almost bet on it that when Monster comes out they will drop the Sonic Boom stuff and play some monster stuff next to Lick It Up, Strutter and all the other crap they have been playing for the last 15 years !

Yup, they've just gone on too long. Gene's a fat guy, Paul's hips are FUBAR and his voice even worse. I think it's time they found something else to do.

Absolutely. You can bet good money on it too. They've wasted so many years pretending to be classic Kiss they forgot to make and perform new music. They don't seem to have any faith in their ability to make an album good enough to stand next to their classics, the new tunes on the last tour didn't really stand up imo. Shame really, I thought Sonic Boom was so contrived to sound like classic Kiss, but at least there were some new songs.

I like MODERN DAY DELILAH. I think it had a nice riff (if not completely derivative) and cool lyrics. I just wish Peter had gotten to play drums on it. A little swing in it's step and that song would've really come alive.

I have watched a few YouTubes of the Sonic Boom Tour and people seemed to really respond well to SAY YEAH!. They should've done a video and promoted that single.

Maybe they will call it quits soon. But theres no doubt that for 60 year olds, they are in pretty good shape. I can just imagine my parents on stage.

I hate when Paul says that some songs are obscure for a reason. It's such a copout answer. KISS has had so many albums and so many songs that only diehard fans know and love all of them...but that doesn't mean that they are BAD.

And KISS was supported and kept afloat for so many years by the diehard fans that it would be nice to see Paul & Gene repay us for the support by playing some songs that WE love and not just pander to the mass audiences just there to say that they have been to a KISS concert before they died.

I hear the similarities. They did TEARS ARE FALLING on the HOT IN THE SHADE tour, which I saw in Chicago. It sounded like Mike Tramp having a hard poo while suffering from bloody hemerroids. (ie, not enjoyable.)

I didn't think much sounded good on the hot in the shade tour, that said I saw it in an outside venue and not very loud. I think they played fits like a glove still though.

The lip lyrics are so dumb and random. It's almost like they made then up last minute while recording. I love kiss for their lyrics that don't make sense . Strutter is good for this.

I had the chance to see the Revenge tour but I was poor and in college so I passed. Based on those videos I now regret that decision. They sounded awesome.

And I don't base it off of that terrible live concert DVD they did for that tour. Like Alive III it sounded more like a cheesy studio recording with WAY too much crowd noise overdubbed on top of it.

they played some really small venues in some cities on that tour.

It was like a trip back to the early 80's. They were back down to mostly the hardcore fans.

Of which there was not a boat load.

Which was funny because, back then, I used to get my balls busted for liking KISS...but now just about everyone wants to go see them in concert to say they saw them "before they died".
