Very cool to see Vinnie kicking his platform in the air.
The photos where Vin is wearing the leather jacket look so cool.

I still wish they had just released CREATURES OF THE NIGHT with Vinnie on the cover and all the promotional materials. Vinnie's make-up was so cool and we didn't get enough pics of it.

I wonder if the Creatures album and tour would've been a success if they would've eventually replaced the Space Ace cover with a Wiz one?

A new release cover once the tour began and the world knew Ace wasn't there would have been nice.

Re-releasing it in 85 with no makeup and Bruce on the cover was pretty dumb, but I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Kiss looked good on the creatures non make up cover.

They did, but it was VERY confusing line-up wise!

It was weird. There were 5 dozen other guitarists that had more to do with CREATURES than Bruce.

When was the different cover released? I am guessing just when Bruce replaced mark.. it could have been mark on the cover if he had stayed.
It wasn't clear who Bruce was .. I was thibking it was ace without make up when I first saw it . I had it before I knew what ace looked like but surely it wasnt ace I said to myself

The new cover came out in 1985.

It was weird because there seemed to be no reason for the new cover. It wasn't a re-mix. (Although I think one song was a different version.) It wasn't a re-issue with extra material. It just appeared one day in the record store.

They were trying to give Creatures a fair chance since KISS had picked up some momentum since removing the makeup... in their minds it wasnt successful the first time due to the makeup and they were probably right.

I wasn't crazy about the second cover. The first one rocked and needed Vinnie instead of Ace. THAT was the F'n problem!!!!

I think the mix was changed and song order. Yeah the original was iconic but its nice for collectors to have both.. I don't believe the non make up cover was released in the UK and some countries but for sure in the states and Germany

On the hot in the shade tour shirt it featured all the kiss album covers on the back.. which creatures cover? I think the non make up

I don't remember that shirt Dino, but it probably had the new cover.

That reminded me of the 15th Anniversary Gatefold Picture Disc version of Smashes, Thrashes and Hits, which was a really nice record. It has the newer cover on it for Creatures.

This would be standard because at the time the only commercially available version was the new one, so the back catalog has to show it.

I remember being surprised the Elder was on it, but they had just released it again in Australia to buy around then.

Up until 89 or so the Kiss discography in Australian record stores was missing albums like Hotter Than Hell, Dressed To Kill, Rock and Roll Over. It was just weird what Polygram were thinking but there were huge gaps in what you could order locally. I was buying second hand and from import shots to build my collection.

That reminds me, back in 88 when our catalog was missing albums all the new copies of Alive! had pics of Destroyer and Dynasty instead of HTH and DTK on the inside!!

This pissed me off and I didn't buy them, but now I wish I did so I will keep a lookout for one of them, as over 20 years later I think it's a cool anomaly to have.

It's crazy to think of how many albums KISS has put out...and yet I am always upset that there weren't more.

There should've been another studio album between Asylum and Crazy Nights.
Smashes, Thrashes and Hits should've been a double album with 1 album being hits and 1 album being new material.
There should've been a live album (it would've been Alive III) before Hot In The Shade with all the "new" material from Creatures, LIU, Animalize, Asylum, Crazy Nights and Smashes.
They should've released another studio album instead of Alive III.

Then, when the original members reunited in 96, they should've toured with a new album instead of just as a "reunion/nostalgia" act. And then a couple of more albums after that with the originals. Then a Millenium Alive IV live double album with 1 disc orchestra and 1 disc just the band.

THEN retire.

That version of Smashes was a special gatefold version released in 88. The regular one doesn't have that. I should dig it up and look at it again. Had a picture disc witha 1976 picture on one side.

The unmasked COTN cover was finally retired when the REMASTERS (CDs) were released. It was either late '97 early '98 when the remastered COTN came out, this being the first time the make-up cover was available on CD. What struck me was the difference to the title track because up until buying the REMASTERS CD, I had only ever heard the unmasked version of the album which in which COTN has a different mix to it and the track order was also changed (both for the better IMO).

Speaking of the REMASTERS, I picked up The Elder this week. I certainly enjoy listening to this album in which the tracks are placed in their intended order and got a surprise at hearing the 'monks' singing just prior to Just A Boy. As a concept album, I sincerely believe The Elder does most things right. Ace's solo in Dark Light is quintessential Ace Frehley.

Thanks for the dates. I believe in some markets they never released the unmasked version and it was released in the 80s on cd in make up but yeah only in very few markets.

It really did make the album more listenable as an "album" to have things in the right order. I would love to hear a truly restored version with the spoken word/acted segments back in.

I think, quite frankly, his project sounds pretty shitty. Post-apocalyptic Elder sounds... off. I'd love a medieval movie.

The elder movie you speak over is at best a student made movie or home made movie. Not something that interests me.

My bet is it won't happen...and if by miracle it does, it will little resemble the original story.
