I think those designs are actually more streamlined than the space and cat designs but I've heard fans diss them over the years, saying they looked stupid and the chracters were silly. If the fox and ankh came first, then fans would've probably thought the cat whiskers were silly or wondered what the hell that silver explosion was supposed to be... in other words, dissed because they weren't the original designs.

I like them all. Eric's second look was a fantastic fox (pun intended) design, but Peter looked cool and so did Ace.

Vinnie's makeup design is my least favorite. I like it but it seems the most rushed, with the least thought and time behind it, which I guess it was.

Way too hard to keep coming up with new member personas.

I think Vinnie's makeup was PERFECT. It really fit his face and the character. He looked like a dead Egyptian pharaoh. Very spooky and mystical . The eye makeup and sunken checks( shading) really sealed the deal.

The ankh has always been my favorite, I love the simplicity. The ugliest would have to be:

Peter was not responsible for the makeup on the first album, he somehow let someone else do it and the band and Bill let it slide. Just ignore that abomination!

as far a s i know, the makeup was made by one makeup artist.Years ago, i've found a pic of an old maya/ south america mask form the middle ages.The one you see is the original one, taken from a magazine and attached on the kiss first LP in my possession.Probably you've already seen this pic on other kiss website and also on Genesimmons.com in the letters section.It was posted on the net the first time by your's truly.

It's just that nobody in Kiss designed that, it was a mistake designed by an outside make-up artist, a terrible representation of Peter's look, ugh. Totally ruins the cover of the first album.

Is Ace stoned?

YUP, Peter too ! I have a 2 page magazine that folds out 4 more times, when opened it has two posters on one side and on the other side is articles. The poster side , top poster has Ace & peter very stoned. The magazine is very rare and I have never seen another one like it. I would like to show it to you all but, unfortunately its packed away at my brothers house as I am a traveling entertainer so, needed to store it somewhere safe. When I get back to his city I will take a photo of it and post it.

Wow, after 30 something years I just noticed that the whiteface went all the way down their necks... never noticed it from the actual album cover pic. In some ways, after all these years, Peter's makeup here is kinda nostalgic... the KISS I was introduced to was the Love Gun/Alive II era and I remember early KISS photos seeming kinda creepy and dangerous (before they were "polished')...

I always thought the make-up should go all the way down...as if their skin were white. However, that would never work because they can't paint their hands (easily) and they would've had to paint anyplace their costume had exposed flesh. Obviously this would be a problem for Paul.

I've thought about that too, but when you look at the makeup as "masks" it works.

The makeup was designed by one makeup professional.Years ago, i've found a pic of an old south america protect up kind the black age categories.The one you see is the exclusive one, taken from a publication and linked on the hug first LP in my possession.
