If the rest of the album is like this, they can be the warm-up band for Vinnie when he goes on tour !!!

It sounds OK so far, but Paul's voice still has that "just getting over laryngitis" sound and I'm not feeling the chorus...it's not as bad as the chorus from the song Psycho Circus and I haven't heard the entire thing, obviously. Musically and production I am liking.

Not a long enough sample for me to be able to form an opinion. I hope that this isn't yet another album of Tommy Thayer aping Ace Frehley.

Im actually really impressed ! Tommy doesn't sound like he is emulating Ace ( Sonic Boom ) but, rather showcasing Aces sound & technique ( on this track. ) Hope to hear more. If it sounds anything like this it should be great !

What was that? I listen out of interest rather than like it. It's ok for an album filler in my mind. For me the 'sing it one more time' stuff totally ruins it.

Doesn't come close to the great kiss tunes of 74 thru to 87.

That said no bands are making as good a music as they did in the 70s/80s so its not bad in that respect

Van Halen's last album is really good. Older, reworked material and new stuff combined. :D

Now the song is out in Germany, too.
The song is good but is NOT a killer tune. Nice work but that's it. But better than the stuff on Sonic Boom I think.
I hope to hear more stuff from the upcoming album. We will see how good the album will be.
I like the up tempo stuff a bit more

I like it...but I don't hear it as a single, much less the lead single for an album that has been being hyped for over a year. I like MODERN DAY DELILAH better than this.

1) I will buy this album as I buy all KISS albums
2) I still have hopes for this album despite not thinking the lead single is spectacular. There have been many KISS albums in the past where the best songs were never released.
3) Tommy is still aping Ace. Not as overtly as on Sonic Boom. The lead guitar sounds more organic to this song and less like Ace's top 10 most frequently used riffs played in a row and dropped into the song.

Kiss said that this album would be a combo of Destroyer & Revenge....I sure hope the rest of the songs are better than this....

I don't have too much hope if this is thr strongest tune.. why did they not blow us away?

Yes, if only they had a lead song to blow is away, like Unholy did before Revenge, that rocked good and proper.

Tattoo from Van Halen was pretty bad and was the single but the rest of the album rocked (except Stay Frosty... oh lord).

Maybe this will be the case with Monster (though Hallelujah imo is a better tune than Tattoo) though I think it'll be another Sonic Boom.

I like Stay Frosty. I just don't think there was a single on the new VH album at all. There are a lot of good songs, just nothing with a nice, catchy radio hook.

I like this new song but I agree that it doesn't sound like a single. It is really riff orientated like Sonic Boom but in this song Tommy Thayer pretty much kicks ass. His bends are right on pitch and I dig some of the chromatic licks that he throws in between the predictable pentatonic licks. I didn't think that on this song that he particularly sounds like Ace.

BTW - I'm digging the new Van Halen too - Go Rick Schobel! :-)

Tattoo is a simple pop song that was meant to appeal to the laymen. Similar in the lack of harshness as JUMP. It has some really cool elements to it.

Stay Frosty is great . When my kids request certain songs , I know they are winners. The "AHH AHH AHH " part in Stay Frosty is the hook that we sing in the car.

ADKOT is a great album that stands up next to the classic VH albums. The Sammy VH albums had some good tunes but they never made good ALBUMS past 5150.
5150 still hade some DLR residue on it and that is why I believe it is good.

I would really dig it if they gave Dave all of the Sammy/VH tunes without vocals and let him work his magic on them. We would get better lyrics and cocky charisma.
No need to address vocal prowess because Dave's talents within VH are FAR superior.
SWAGGER !!!!

I prefer Sammy solo, especially the early 1980's gems.

I disagree. I think OU812 is a great, raw album. It feels like a bunch of amazing musicians jamming away and having the best times of their lives. Some of VH's best songs on that album.

After that, I agree with you. The cracks in the armor were already showing during FUCK. It was full meltdown by BALANCE. (Terrible, terrible album.)

Yes, why did I buy Balance? FUCK was good. I dug Sammy in VH up until then.

OU812 sounds premeditated , bland, and uninspired to me.The production/mix blows.
FUCK (2nd best Sammy/VH album) reintroduced the inspiration but fell short as a complete album to me.

I love VH's Balance! I've been listening to it over the last 2 weeks!!! Ed had a great tone on it! And Alex's drum tone was fantastic!

I love F.U.C.K too though!

OU812 is what Rick said!

I always interpreted the sound & vibe of OU812 as being loose, minimal production...like 4 guys jamming in a rehearsal space and they rolled tape. I hear 4 guys that are having a blast playing together and aren't concerned with perfection.

I find FUCK to be stiff and lacking spontaneity. There are great songs on it, but there's not much of that classic VH sense of "fun"...flying by the seat of their pants. Up until then every VH album felt like an audio party. FUCK sounds premeditated and calculated.

Hell or Hallelujah isn´t a sensation but I think it´s okay, I like it.
Paul sounds very good to me, as good as usual. But okay, I must confess I love his voice and anyway he´s the main reason why I´m listening to Kiss.

I think people here are expecting to much, even Paul himself said its just a solid rock album. I dont believe he said it would be a milestone .... maybe Gene said that but, he say's that about every album. At least Paul can admit Unmasked was a stinker ! This song is good and as I mentioned before and everybody here then repeated the same thing. Tommy sounds great and isnt emulating Ace like he did on Sonic Boom , he is showcasing Ace's sound and techniques and Im all for that ! Hope its only as good as Paul claims it is and that is a good rock album.

Paul has never admitted that Unmasked is a stinker as far as I know... Gene says he hates it but not Paul... for cryin out loud Paul still plays Shandi live!

Just because he still plays Shandi doesnt mean he didn't like the album. They got really lucky w/ that song thanks to the Aussies ! Paul has mentioned it was a bad album cuz no one band member knew where they were at. They were trying to please critics, Peter was out, Ace didnt want to be there, Gene was enjoying the attention based around the hype of being w/ Diana Ross rather then the sound of KISS. Thats why Paul has said it was a disaster.... every Kiss fan knows this ! Why you always want to debate w/ me Pinkwiz ?

Personally I like some of the songs ( Is That You , Shandi and a couple of Ace tracks. As far as the songs there not the KIss sound that I was used too but, like every other kid I fell into the hype and bought it like I do every Kiss album. lol I prefer the Elder over Unmasked myself.
