Getting past your past

Throughout the Kiss threads and some of the Vinnie topics, there are comments as to how they aren't as good as they once were, ETC...

I believe that they are victims of their great pasts that are afraid to reinvent themselves. Kiss tried to a few times and fell on their face (even though I really like when they branched out).

By Vinnie's use of old pictures and by not touring/releasing music, I believe Vinnie is struggling with the image and style of his past.
Vinnie is too talented to be sitting on his ass worrying what idiots on forums think . He needs to get over the fact that he is 60 years old. I'm sure his musical chops are still incredible.
I will stand by my posts that hoped for him to release multiple ,multi-style, albums on the same day. He would create his own buzz and be on every guitar magazine cover.

Some people have trouble aging gracefully. I have witnessed a youthful Vinnie, now I want to experience a vibrant musician that has some years behind him. EVH got his chops back after some questionable years. Vinnie might have never lost his.
Looks don't matter at this point. It is rough holding yourself up to your past.

I have noticed this about myself in recent years. I stopped taking pictures with friends , etc, for many years because I was embarrassed of myself...
I got over myself and my issues of weight and age and have learned to be in the moment and enjoy the company that I am lucky enough to have. I am playing again and doing it for the reasons I started to play when I was younger
(BECAUSE IT'S FUN---- Pussy helps as well  )

That is why I have started to show my face a lot more in recent months.
I hope that anyone else with these issues can overcome them and learn to smile for the camera, for themselves, for the people who care, once again.

Nice post Rickster. Understood on all fronts.

A great past is a lot I live up to. Being stuck there is not always the answer.

Nice post, to the rock star image is everything, its a very real obstacle. I know I have seen a few artist or even friends that I have not seen in a very long time went who the hell is that. But in the end they are the same person or great musician they have always been. Well some of the musicians not so much but you get my drift.

Yesterday has been and gone
Tomorrow will I find the sun
Or will it rain
Everybody's having fun
Except me, I'm the lonely one
I live in shame

I say goodbye to romance
Goodbye to friends, I tell you
Goodbye to all the past
I guess that we'll meet
We'll meet in the end

I've been the king, I've been the clown
Now broken wings can't hold me down
I'm free again
The jester with the broken crown
It won't be me this time around
To love in vain

I say goodbye to romance
Goodbye to friends, I tell you
Goodbye to all the past
I guess that we'll meet
We'll meet in the end

And I feel the time is right
Although I know that you just might say to me
What'cha gonna do
What'cha gonna do
But I have to take this chance goodbye
To friends and to romance
And to all of you
And to all of you
Come on now

I say goodbye to romance
Goodbye to friends, I tell you
Goodbye to all the past
I guess that we'll meet
We'll meet in the end

And the weather's looking fine
And I think the sun will shine again
And I feel I've cleared my mind
All the past is left behind again

I say goodbye to romance
Goodbye to friends, I tell you
Goodbye to all the past
I guess that we'll meet
We'll meet in the end

Image plays a part of the equation....and that may be a part of the problem but I will tell you this, if I had the gift of being able to sing, play guitar and write great songs and get paid "BIG BUCK$" for doing what I really loved, I would do it for as long as I could not just for myself but for my fans !!! Maybe some artists do loose their interest or feel that just because they don't look or sound like they use to, would anybody really come 2 see them play ??? Probably 80 % of the time your listening to an artists song on a Radio/CD/MP3/Vinyl and 20% is from watching music videos...I could care less what Vinnie looks like 30 years later, I just want to hear him play the guitar and sing his great songs....as far as I'm concerned, he can sit on a stool in a pair of diapers with a shaved head and just play and I'd be happy !!!

That song brings tears to my eyes. It makes me imagine Randy. I know how it sounds getting all sentimental about an Ozzy song.

Vinnie feels sorry for himself over aging? Maybe he should watch this movie.

Oh well. I don't give a fuck about aging. I'll get treated like a machine at the age of 80, just like at the age of 19. Nothing will change. Thinking too much is still unattractive. I guess Vinnie's losing more. I oughtta feel for him. He's not invited to the A-list parties like the 23 year olds in the music business. That's a bitch. He might have to settle with being loved by one woman some day. God, the poor dude...

I wanted to clarify. I shouldn't have used ages. I meant that I always have been a dweeb and always will be one. Just like when I was 19, 25, ___or fill in whatever age between birth and 40. The words, "thinking too much isn't attractive" mean I am a nerd. That isn't bragging, either. This post was pretty self conscious and it got worse with my communication fail.
