Gday VV lovers!
Coffee has been brought up briefly a few months ago.
Thought I'd chuck in a video of my newish machine pulling my 1st shot.
Had a Gaggia Classic before this one.
The new one is an ECM Botticelli (ECM is now Rocket if you know your machine brands)
...and I have the Breville Smart Grinder, or BCG800, fantastic grinder !
Check it here :

Bottoms up!

Nice Jase, is that how you drink it? How many mls in that shot?
Does the grind setting change much? My machine has one but I haven't touched it either way.

I occasionally drink it like that, but that's the basis for pretty much every drink anyway.
The glass is 80mls, and you guestimate a 60ml double shot
Then I tip into another glass and just have a long black.
Sometimes do the milk for the cap..depending on the day, but early morning breakfast is always long black.
Yum!
Fresh beans in a grinder does the trick.
Once I have the settings dialled in for the beans, it pretty much doesn't move.
I just need to be carefull i have the same amount of beans ground, and I tamper the same pressure each time.
Vic, yours is all fully automatic I think so if it's working fine, I doubt you would ever have to touch it

Cool, 30ml per shot is what I was thinking but I couldn't tell how many shots went into that cup.
My machine is fully automatic, but it has a setting for the grinder, which I've not touched as I'm not sure what difference it makes.
Any tips?
I have a Cap every time I make one.

If you are able to work on just the shot...
well for me a double shot is supposed to be about 24 secs i think????
The one I uploaded is pretty close to a good timing so you can work off that one.
If it's too fast, try making the grind a little finer, and the opposite for too slow, a little coarser.
I doubt you have control over the pressure of tamping the coffee biscuit, so just go for that.
I find if it's too slow, i usually wait it out, even if 40 secs and drink it anyway, but it's far too bitter !
Too fast, and it's just light coloured water, might as well have instant
Good luck!
Oh, Dino, just using a local store at the moment.
It's a blend, of what I don't know but it's one of the best I've had for awhile.

Ah, so how coarse or fine the grind is makes the process take longer in your machine?
For mine, I can specify how many ml I want out of each shot, so I never check the time, it's always the same as before, or exactly as you want it. Same for strength and temp, it's digitally controlled.
Would the finer or coarser grind affect me much?

Every machine is different.
I'd suggest trying a couple of settings finer/courser and just see what happens.
Can't hurt

love the smell of coffee... love the taste of coffee... but it seems there's always either too much or too little of it in my system.
