Fuck I love Exciter. Fuck I love the Lick It Up album. If I had produced that I would be as proud as punch.
I like the first one better than the second, but as has been mentioned in the thread, these are just some scratch/demo solos, we don't really know what was the last thing Vinnie did before they got Derringer in.
When I found out Vinnie didn't play that solo I was shocked. It so totally fits the song and his style, it's an excellent solo. I'm amazed Rick could play like that, very cool.

Yep, but I still believe Vinnie plays the first part of the solo and Rick the second part.

I have no doubt in my mind that Vinnie could have played a spectacular guitar solo on "Exciter." The fact that he is not featured on the album was either a power play by G/P or some sort of time issue (as in they were in a bind for time and needed a solo quickly, so they grabbed Derringer). What can you do? Every guitarist in KISS has been ghosted on an album at least once (save for Thayer, I guess).
Related noteā¦. In 2011 I was a hair away from an interview with Michael James Jackson for the FAQ. We are all confirmed and ready to go and Michael ended up postponing at the last minute and he never came through after that. We were armed with some amazing questions (and "Exciter" was on the docket) but it was not to be. I hope someone tracks him down and conducts an in-depth KISS interview with him. "COTN" and "LIU" are two fantastic KISS albums and yet they are somewhat shrouded in mystery.

What do you think of the live exciter solos like the one from radio city music hall?

Who knows... maybe Rick was playing thru Vinnie's rig for the first part of the solo and told to PLAY like Vinnie. It still sounds very "Vinnie-esque" to me and unless Cusano or Derringer come here personally and say otherwise I will always believe the first part of the solo to be Vinnie.

Love it. Great combination of speed, unpredictable phrasing and melody.

I like it too. More than studio solo.
