A few years ago Dick Cheney went on TV and told American citizens not to travel to Mexico. Theres many incidences of gangs murdering tourists in their hotel rooms and robbing them and then the crime being framed onto other tourists in the same hotel who are arrested and held without trial in jail for years and the police are in on it and help with the cover up. Maybe they just dont want to risk being killed. The US dept of state website lists as dangerous Mexico right alongside other great vacation spots like Libya, Columbia and Afghanistan..
