38 years ago today, 9/18/1983, KISS Lick It Up is released.
On the day of the record's release, the group members
appeared on MTV without their trademark makeup. It was their first public appearance without makeup. The event made headlines around the world and was shown on the national TV news programs.
Coincidentally, Lick It Up became KISS' first Gold album since 1980's "Unmasked" and marked the bands return to the Top 25 on the Billboard charts.
Music videos for "Lick It Up" and "All Hells Breakin' Loose" received heavy airplay on MTV.
"All Hells Breakin' Loose" was nominated for an MTV VMA award.
This was also the only KISS album to officially list Vinnie Vincent as a member of KISS.

Nope. Sept 18th was a Sunday.

This was the night that KISS unmasked on MTV. Pretty much ignored and not publicized at all. 11pm ET

Also, neither video received heavy airplay. LIU was in medium rotation for a long time. (Same as HOF later).

AHBL was in light rotation for a short period. It was a poor choice for the follow up single/video.

Yeah, very strange choice was AHBL for a second single. I'm sure Eric was chuffed, but they barely played it live, great song it is, but it doesn't translate that well live. A bit of a head scratcher me about why they released it, but they played so many other songs from the album.

Exciter would have been a great single choice.
