"i played with him twice on-stage at a couple of kiss conventions (i was in "rock and roll over", a KISS tribute band) in '94.
i asked him what he thinks of his carvin vincent model compared to his jackson vincent model.
he said they are definitely equal, and he actually played my carvin (dc 145, '90 model) both times we played with him.
he commented that it felt just like his carvin vincent model as carvins neck profiles are very consistent with each other.
we played lick it up (cuz he wrote that one) and cold gin.
he insisted that i play the leads for some reason, i don't know why.
but i did ask him about the album that says "no outboard gear", because there seems to be a bit of compression on his sound and he nodded yes, there was.
he had the most hot-rodded sound i've ever heard.
under-appreciated guitarist.
i pleaded with him to play at least one of the leads but he said no, you can have it. iwould have loved it if he played lead on at least one of the songs, just to watch......
it may be because it was not his guitar set up to his personal specs.
but his wig was up to spec, however..(backstage talking to him he was very kind and curteous, forthcoming and friendly.---and also VERY BALD. he didn't seem to care at all, why should he?
great guy, despite what you hear.
he gave a thumbs up to carvin. we didn't discuss amps.
he did say there was less compression than it seems on the "no outboard gear" album, due to his amps eq being cinched up tight.
he played faster than malmsteen, and didn't have to sweep pick to do it either.
it was a good experience all around, friendlier than KISS when we played with them at their boston convention. "
"well he was pleasant to us anyway.... i know he is roundly known to be a jerk.
that's why we were so surprised by how friendly he was.
maybe cuz he was the celebrity guest at these two conventions.
what a femme though. i mean, he is SO fey he makes michael jackson look like lemmy kilmeister in comparison
he drove up himself for the lousy $1500 dollar fee he got.
my god, M.J. has NOTHING on this guy as far as being femme."

"I spent some time with Vinnie about 15 years ago, and he can really wail.
But I'll also add he's his own worst enemy."

"I had a few lessons with Steve Trovato who told me he was filming his instructional video the same day VV was in the studio filming his.ST said everything you hear is VV himself,no trickery, and all flat- and hybrid- picking. The weird time-phased sound was VV playing through several big, loud amps simultaneously.
Overprocessed babydoll, bubblegum prom-ballads with obscene cocaine shred...I mean, what can you say? It's almost the stuff of John Waters,a grotesque sign of the times. "

"Carvin never offered a VV model for sale to the public. The guitar in the Carvin photo is a one off that they made for him.
I saw him play on the All Systems Go tour and he used that same Carvin for the entire show. On his previous solo tour and the Kiss tours, he used Jackson V's.
Vinnie's Carvin had an older, non-fine tuning Floyd; I saw him loosen the locking nut and adjust the tuning at the headstock between songs at one point. The pickups were not Carvin.
Vinnie also had a wall of Carvin X100B amps behind him during the show, but none of them were turned on. I asked him about this after the show and he admitted he was really playing through "an old Marshall" in the back. He was very friendly with all the fans who waited to meet him after the show. "
somebody we know and have high esteem of-And, no, it's not Vinnie, but double V
BTW, i've chosen the best bits, other comments were......well......a bit derogatory...
