Chicago

Any of you guys like them? One of the longest running bands going, I think they should get much more credit than they do. Over the last few years I started getting into their stuff, found a lot of it to be absolutely awesome! I know they have this reputation as a soft corny ballad band after the 80's, but their early stuff is really edgy jazz-fused-rock. Their latest album XXX, from 2006, goes back more to their early style, and I think it's great. They've just announced a tour of Europe this year, no UK dates yet though. I'm hoping, would be the first time I get the chance to see them.

There's a couple more songs I wanted to post but youtube doesn't have them :(

Preview from upcoming DVD.

Whether it was their early style or the schmaltz of the 1980's, they were one of the bands that did everything exceptionally well .

Yeah, I totally agree. Personally, even though their 80's stuff was conpletely geared to the commerial market, its still great feelgood music. I love songs you can just belt out :D classic 80s.

Whooo... damn, back now. Had enoguh beer to last me a while. I'll try to be coherent :D

Ok yeah, so, that album is great, the first half is pretty much the old stuff, second half is very much 80's ballad heavy. The thing that made me get into them was the 80's ballads so it's all good. The old school Chicago fan would no doubt point you in the direction of early albums. I'm young enough to have unfortunately missed all that, so my point of view is different. The 'best of' album is a good start. they have a lot of great stuff.

I like Peter's singing, and his solo song Glory Of Love was great when Karate Kid Pt2 came out.

Interesting story about his singing style, I always thought he looked "different" when he sang.

These guys played London Hammersmith Apollo tonight. I just got back, and I tell you it was one of the best shows that I've ever been to. If you get the chance, go see them!

Great. Did they do Glory Of Love by any chance? I know it's a solo song by Peter, but it's very popular.

No, they didn't. Yep you're right, Peter released it after leaving Chicago in 1984. I think there remains a bit of bad blood between them, so they'll be dead before they ever play that song! If, and I doubt, if they ever reunite, it could be a possibility, but... even then I wouldn't think so.

I do love that song as well.

Damn, that would have been fantastic, but I guess it will never happen. Too bad. I love that song.

I dig Chicago as well.

Here's a funny kinda Chicago related story.

I just went and saw Blue Oyster Cult for the umpteenth time at one of these free fest things.

The warm up act was a Chicago tribute band.

Were they good?

Sure.

Were they the wrong thing to put on before Blue Oyster Cult?

Most definitely.

At any rate here is a pic I took of them.

My Blue Oyster Cult pics from that night are here @

What a strange choice of opening act indeed.
