My VV project – work in progress…
As I was thinking about buying another guitar to calm down my GAS (I’ve noticed some nice guitars I don’t have, like some US Telecaster, or a Jake E lee style Charvel, or a Gibson SG…), I remembered my old VV project that involved transforming an old wrecked Matsumoku guitar into a VV model. No money to spend here, but a lot of work to do…
I checked and observed the pictures I found on the net. My Jackson RR pro helped me to do the first drawing too. I didn't think VV guitars were so big...
If you (guitar pros especially) won’t make too much fun of me, and if Vinnie won’t sue me for this , I’ll show you the next steps of my handyman project. It’ll take a while, but I’m sure I’ll be faster than TJ Monster to finish mine
Here are some picture of all this :

Re: My VV project – work in progress…
I did some job today on the guitar, slowly : I cut some wood and prepared the place for the Floyd. I also found a name for this guitar . It will be the '86 TRASHBIN PS , as it came from a trashbin and the color will be pink and silver. Still a long way to go...

Thanks. I did that years ago, trying to do something like a Vox guitar. I didn't know how to finish it then. Now I've got an idea. I think it'll work...poserboy71 wrote:I like the original shape of that guitar.

This is great !
I thought about doing this to my old Ibanez, but you know, didn't get past the thinking stage
I love the fret board pattern!
Hope it works out.
Is the headstock damaged? ripped off on one side?
What the plan there?
Pics, pics and more progress pics please

The fret board pattern is cool, but I'd like to have the Jackson marks. The problem with the actual marks is they won't be covered by the Jackson marks... I'll have to decide...birnie wrote: I love the fret board pattern!

The headstock is damaged, but I think I have a solution...
Pics will follow. I've been busy with the Floyd installation. I sincerely hope no luthier works like me...
The important thing is that I still think I'll succeed!
It would have been though much more easier to work on a Jackson with a Floyd...

Re: My VV project – work in progress…
I've been working on the headstock, kind of AZG shape .
Aluminium allows me to make those edgy shapes.
At the end, paint will cover everything.
My headstock will be a deadly weapon...
Yeah yeah yeah!

Actually, I wonder if a Speedloader Floyd Rose would suit this better?? No tension on the headstock at all!

This is going to be fascinating to see what the finished product looks like and sounds like. This may be the first attempt known of a guitar modified into a Double V?

This is really so creative. Never in a million years could I have imagined doing something like this but this really looks cool. How did this guitar play before you modified it?

I have no idea... A friend found it in a trashbin and gave it to me. It was half of a double-guitar.Slayer wrote:This is really so creative. Never in a million years could I have imagined doing something like this but this really looks cool. How did this guitar play before you modified it?
I think it'll sound ok as it is a japanese guitar from the end of the seventies/early eighties.
I did some mastic/refill today. Everything gets well hidden...

Ok how does the neck profile feel in your hand? What shape is the neck?

Re: My VV project – work in progress…
The neck profile is fine, I think it's a C shape. Unfortunately I'll have to paint it, because wood is not very vinnyish...
This neck is also strangely narrow : I'll have to work on the locking Floyd piece to get the first and sixth string on the frets...
Dremels can do anything!

Re: My VV project – work in progress…
Hey, tukoztukoz. Before I ask this question, let me state what you have done is brilliant. But I'm just wondering. Wouldn't it been better to slice off the whole neck, as in you'd end up with a neck thru situation and then attach the wings instead of jigsaw puzzling the thing together.
I got Jesus in my fax machine. I saw Ho Chi Minh down @ Burger King. I dated Vinnie Vincent as a Drag Queen. I still don't understand a f**kin' thing.
I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass and I'm all out of bubble gum.

You're right, I even thought the same a few days ago about slicing the neck. I think at the beginning I wanted to keep the maximum of the original wood, and I didn't want any "wings movements", since the plates are made of 2 slices of aluminium and 1 thicker slice of plastic.
I didn't want to work with wood because that would have been a real luthier's difficult work, and those wings are so pointy. I don't have the right machines too, but maybe I'll get one or two woodmachines someday. Woodworking is nice, which is not the case with metal and resins/mastic...
Let's say this guitar is some sort of a poetic artisanal amateur sculpture...
I checked its weight : 3kg500 without pick-ups and metal parts.

This has actually given me an idea. Making small metal caps to put on the tips of our favorite pointy guitars to avoid Vin-fin-damage.
