Nice post
I got Jesus in my fax machine. I saw Ho Chi Minh down @ Burger King. I dated Vinnie Vincent as a Drag Queen. I still don't understand a f**kin' thing.
I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass and I'm all out of bubble gum.

Thanks for sharing, some of the pictures look like they may have been taken at the Smyrna Property?

Cool.

Still amazed that Grover Jackson let Vinnie have that unfinished Rhoads, that was then used in the CotN promo pictures. I guess it was given to Vinnie to try out to see whether he liked how it felt?

Just to piss the guitar nerds off....   ....does this throw into confusion the numbering of the Rhoads guitars? Vinnie's first gold Rhoads is known as the "First Five Rhoads" as it was the fifth one built. The gold one would would be the fifth built if you included the original "Concorde" guitar...but since the Concorde is technically not a Rhoads...... can of worms opened!

Are we looking at

1. Concorde. 2. Randy's black one. 3. The accidentally sold at NAMM one. 4. The bad neck one that was finally finished in 1988. 5. Vinnie's first gold one.

Or is it...

The Concorde, a stand alone model.

1. Randy's black one. 2. Sold at NAMM one. 3. 1988 finished one. 4. The CotN promo one (later finished in black, there's no doubt there). 5. The first gold one.

Like I said, can of worms opened! :P

A couple of years ago I had a "friendly" discussion with a guy from Germany who swore black & blue that the 1988 finished one was actually retro fitted with a Floyd and given to Vinnie in 1982, I assume as the first gold one? When I posted a picture of Mike Shannon, Charvel/Jackson Guitars No.1 luthier at the time, holding it in 1988/89 (there was a poster behind Mike with the Charvel "toothpaste" logo proving it was from that time period) and it still featured a Fender style wang, the guy blocked me on FB. lol

You can probably find an old RR for sale, it just depends on the price!!!

Yeh, the prices may get too high. I've been thinking of getting a new Jackson RR, as they are not that expensive, but I'm hesitating a bit...

Keep an eye out, you might get a bargain.

I have two but I bought them 20 years ago.

Wow, can't believe how the time has passed.

Yes!!! I have an Ibanez PR1660, which is basicly Ibanez' s version of Jackson RR. It's from 1985. There are also Ibanez PL2660, which is neck-thru', supposedly even better than PR1660 (which is bolt-on neck).

The PL2660 would be good, as real Rhoads' are neck-thru. Ibanez does have a history of using bolt-on necks on guitars that didn't come with them, like some of their lawsuit LP's.

I wish Jackson had never made cheaper Rhoads with bolt-on necks, but all the mis-steps and mistakes made by that company is too much for this thread.

I got myself this:

It's a cheapo copy, plays okey. It's not great, but I will use it for band rehearsals and see if it's worth adjusting and setting up properly.

It's a chinese knock-off, I think. At least I got it from the infamous(?) Aliexpress. It was cheap enough, so I thought I'd give it a try. For a chinese copy, it's not even half bad: with a bit of setting up and adjustments it has actually stayed in tune okey. Pick-ups are crappy, so I may change them, but hey,- it has original Jackson-logo on the headstock!!! It could be bit more visible, but whatta heck.

Yes, the Chinese will knock off anything and any trademarked name if you want/let them. At least it plays ok, I was wondering if you got it direct from Aliexpress.

Yes, I think it came directly thru' Aliexpress. The guy whom I wrote to, had very bad english so there was bit of communication problems and misunderstandings, mostly on his behalf. Either that, or he played difficult. End result was that I got the guitar,- in time and well packed etc.
I will play this guitar for a bit now and see if it's worth updating. And if it is, then might get another copy (if I can get a bargain price) and set it up too.

Thanks, so far so good!!! My friend who sets up guitars agreed with me: it's not that bad for a cheapo chinese knock-off!!! 'Cos you never know what you get...

That has the Randy vibe all over it.

Haven't kept up with the newer Jackson stuff. The RR3 used to be a bolt on, MIJ, but I didn't like the one I took home at all.

This one is MII but is necktrhough and has a Floyd that is at least easily upgradable compared to the ones they were using 20+ years ago.

Yes, it's the only way for V guitars.

The set neck of the Gibson is good too as it's much like a neck through too.
