Motley Crüe/Whitesnake Australia Tour

Post by Brooklyn_Born »

Looks like the end of the year (October/November) is going to be an 80's Rock overload in the land down under with talks of Motley Crüe touring with Whitesnake & possibly Poison in tow... With Van halen & Alice Cooper playing September/October my ears will be ringing for weeks!

I can't wait!!!

Last time I saw crue was on the Dr feelgood tour. I loved mick mars but for some reasoninever got crazy for crue. Saw whitesnake last in 88 I think. Saw Alice in the starplex in Dallas in I think 1991 with Judas priest, motorhead and I forget the others. Oh, dangerous toys and metal church, just came to me.

I went to that show in Pittsburgh at Three Rivers Stadium. I got EVH's pick at that show. All of the bands were great. Don Dokken was kinda ridiculous. Metallica BEFORE Dokken    . Even then, Metallica was bigger , in momentum alone. The Scorpion's were Rock-n-Roll cheerleaders and Kingdom Come was solid even though the crowd booed the guitarists solo spot.

I remember EVH's sound being dry and lacking sustain.

Still, I can remember the feeling I had that day in anticipation of the day of ROCK that I was about to witness.

Those days of ROCK are almost gone.

Dokken broke up the last day of the monsters of rock tour in Denver.
I thought they were not so good in a stadium situation. To me Dokken were made for a smaller venue. I never really got into Kingdom Come. I remember Van Halen had the biggest drum set I had ever seen. I wonder why now I come to think about it? Bonham only had a 5 piece (and really only used 4) and he did ok.

Check the guy on acoustic guitar!!

Mick is great. I really liked the whole bands performance at the Moscow Peace Festival from 89. I think three songs were on the video and they sounded great.

Obviously, he is not an advanced player technically but some of his subtle tricks make him truly a solid player and song writer. I think that he has a great left hand and I love those precision muted left hand over the top slides. He knows exactly what he is doing and is a good performer in spite of his health issues.

Good observation. I am guilty of liking Mick's playing as well. For some reason, he can get away with stuff that I cat let local musicians get away with.

Mick is a lot like Ace, memorably leads, catchy riffs.

I'm not a fan of Tom, he never really did anything for me.

years ago i messaged mick for tips on playing some crue tunes - thankfully he messaged back but he didnt really help he just said stick at it - it was Too fast for love - i had the tableture but just couldnt get the sound right.

have seen the Crue 3 times now - great band live when Vince can be arsed to sing

Seen whitesnake once - not my fave band but they did put on a good show.

In other news - i got my Iron Maiden ticket in yesterdcay for the July show - cant wait - was the first band i saw live - was 1984 i was 12.
Cruisin' downtown, Shakin' her love, Is that babe talkin' to me, Felt my heart drop, Women can't stop, Girl has got me on my knees, Baby baby babe don't make me wonder, Won't you let me in, She said - see you later, Shot down, I'll be back again

I've never really checked Mick out much either.
Loved the band and he's obviously no Gilbert/Malsteem etc...
(bit over them now though, i only really find 2 songs per album i like)

But...I love this solo so much ! (below)
These so called slow techniques definately would take some time to master.
This one would take me months to perfect, if i could at all....

I went to see Whitesnake 2 weeks ago. Really good show. The set was honestly short! Aldrich, and Reb did really long solos (no complaint) Coverdale was offstage alot. They didn't play "Cryin In The Rain!" The set had alot of new tunes. I don't like Reb's work on some of the songs such as "Here I Go Again" that is the coolest song, and I never liked Vandenbergs weak solo on the album, Reb's isn't any better. I think it would be cooler if Aldrich played a solo on that one. I got 2 video clips on a crappy phone. Coverdale didn't lip sync, and sounded great as well, better than he did on the last Live dvd in my opinion. I'm a huge fan of Dougs old band Lion, I was excited to finally see him play live. Crue's playing close by this month. Poison is playing tonight.

Watch any of the recent Youtube clips. It makes me sad for him.
I hate to see him smudge his legacy like this. At least Robert Plant makes attempts to age gracefully.
Maybe it is a good thing that Vinnie stays away. Maybe he has lost it.
I wish to hold on to what remains of my passion and love for Vinnie's playing so I guess I should thank him for not ruining my memories by performing live again.

The band is BEYOND stellar as they cover for him for most of the show. They tune down for David in order to save his voice BUT David has a tendency to sing sharp to the tuning. He depends on the crowd more than Vince Neil on a bender. His voice has lost the smokey soul and is now screechy bullshit. It isn't a case of having a bad show or a cold, this is what he sounds like now.

I think he holding up ok for his age, Paul Stanley is going through problems with his live voice too... It must be difficult singing every night for months on end when you're pushing 60... Genes voice has held well...

Mickey Thomas from Starship is the only older vocalist (63 years old) that I can think of that sings everything in the key that he did years ago. I'll be working a show on the 25th of this month and get to witness this live with my own two ears.

also id rather dave be sharp than flat thats means hes oevr shooting and at least he can still hit the notes .. as really in his defense if i were him id sing everything tuned down so that i could have a an easier tour, at his age .. i thinks admirable that he has the band sing the parts to fill the sound so he can conserve for the " key parts"... lets face it ...it is a show and if he sang like mad man on every track live .. he wouldnt be able to tour , man take a listen to don dokken lately hes the worst of the worst in dokken ..( acoustic shows dont count he does decent at those) ..
