How does Vinnie do that guitar sound at the end of the song Invasion?

The guitar sound on that album...outstanding.

Come out of the shadows
Insecurity lies
In a heart afraid to listen

For me vinnie has made some epic master songs like the Stephen speilburg of heavy metal.
Invasion, I still love you and my favorite invincible. They have everything and are long enough to have many layers. In a way like jazz or classical the songs run long enough to really go places. I.would love to.hear 8 minute versions of other tunes like ashes, million to one, love kills, back on the streets etc.. really build on the tune and show the musicianship.

I'm just glad when I put it on my iphone/ipod etc, I was able to cut the ending down to 5 secs! :)

You need to talk to these college kids about their rap ringtones. Blehhhh....they can't even disturb your study with rockin' guitar solos.

Not just Vinnie that suffered at my editing hands!
Dream Theater had a song where the keyboardist played a nearly 3 min intro on slide guitar. Great keyboardist, awful slide player! Cut it off and now the song starts when the whole band kicks in! Fluked the edit perfectly, you'd think the song started there!

The just isn't the same without three full minutes of hell burning in your ears. That's why my edit on my MP3 player has an extra three minutes, just for when I have someone else in the house.
Eh.

Anyone know a decent way to contact Bobby Rock? I need to talk to him about an important business proposal, among other things...

Invasion outro

Post by Genebaby »

That kind of feedback can be attained by facing the guitars pickup at the speaker.

Depending on volume and gain as to where you place he guitar.

Ace did the same thing at the start of King Of The Night Time World live.

You may have seen a guitarist facing his amp before too.

Yeah I probably have, although Ive never heard it as awesome as on Invasion. It would have been great to have 10 more Invasion albums, all with crazy sounds.

He gave a detailed interview I believe in 87. Also on the cassette tape recorded interview with the guy from guitar world he talks a little. I believe that interview is somewhere on this board.

In the controlled environment of the studio it's easier to achieve this kind of feedback and with the particular sound/tone you want, so no surprise it sounds cool.

I'd say a lot of sampling & outboard gear WAS used in the process of making that album. Just listen to Twisted & Animal. I don't care that it was. All bands were doing it. The majority of mid 80's to mid 90's hair metal didn't even have real drums. Record companies are just like every other business. The bottom line. The cheaper the co$t, the happier the executives.

I never noticed any band using fake drums in mid to late 80s. I think constructor was mostly drum machine. Let me know any you know about so I can re listen.

A lot of bands used drum machines. Either for the entire song or embellishments.

Was it Vinnies decision to write that "no pedals, outboard gear or synthesizers were used anywhere on the album"?

i don't think anything he says can be taken as fact. he has proven that in the past. Its what sounds good and suits him at the time. I am not saying this is a lie, but just can not trust anything as fact.

usually its obvious that drum machine is being used. I don't hear it on mid to late 80s stuff myself but most of the stuff I have not heard since I was 14/15 years old. damn, sad if i think about this.
