I love the production on LIU, it's a perfect, sleek, metal sound. The drums sound fine to me.
You're paying import prices for Killers because for some reason it wasn't released in the US.
True, they should have released it as a cheap, four song EP, to show they were back to rocking it.

Re: Vinnie quotes
I agree about the production. I think it was produced to the style of the times. As a drummer, I LOVE Creatures but as a songwriter I think Lick It Up is far more sophisticated and cohesive than Creatures.Genebaby wrote:I love the production on LIU, it's a perfect, sleek, metal sound. Lick It Up is perfect in every way... I sometimes fantasize about them rocking out to tunes like A Million To One, Fits Like A Glove, Not For The Innocent, Exciter, etc. looking like THIS:

Guess that fantasy isn't too far of the mark since this was the makeup version of the photo shoot for LIU...

Don't blame KISS for this one. It was the record companies idea. They wanted the compilation (and there hadn't been as many overseas as there had been in the US) to stop the hemorrhaging The Elder had done. And it was never to be an EP in the states. There was talk of reworking those songs for COTN, but then Vinnie contributed so much they didn't need to use them.
But why is Killers mentioned, because its basically all the COTN sessions. All the players are the same except for one thing. One is pre-VV the other is with VV. Notice the difference?
Heck, they recorded 5 songs of Vinnies for COTN. It's a shame they didn't use Back On The Streets and Betrayed.
People will still say, he didn't do much on COTN. Only 3 songs. Although, they recorded 5 of his.
He didn't do much. But if you listen to Killers and listen to COTN and the only change was the addition of Vinnie and those are night and day differences.
Same with Revenge. They only used 3 but they recorded at least 6. And that album, while great for its sound--it did have filler. And the filler wasn't VV songs. But had they used more on the album--then they would have been hit with = its another VV album. Just like they had to deal with on LIU.
Re: Vinnie quotes
You could certainly argue that COTN did in fact save the band. If that album had sucked or been mediocre, then with Ace gone and the record contract void--there's no saying KISS would have been signed to another deal. And that could have very well happened--especially after KISS had just gone done suing their own record label.doublev2 wrote:Revenge was similar to Cratures. Sold badly and had a very bad tour. I love Vinnie's work in Kiss but Creatures and Revenge did not save kiss. You could argue Lick it up did.
The greatness of COTN showed the music was there--but the "past" was hurting the marketing. People were still viewing them as the band who hadn't put out a good/great record since 1977.
After putting out marginal product for 5 years or more--it takes time to turn the ship around.
Same thing with Revenge, KISS had been putting out weak/marginal albums since 1985. Animalize was an ok album. Finally KISS was back musically. The timing was bad. And then postponing the tour only hurt matters. But KISS had another strong album. The best musically since LIU. It would have been better without the filler on it. 6 Vinnie songs (recorded 6 used 3) would have made for a fantastic cd. But then KISS would have heard it again--another VV solo album.... and all the other comments.
Heck without Revenge being so good--where would Gene be?! Every new album its Revenge meets Destroyer or Revenge meets COTN.
Re: Vinnie quotes
Now thats good points . I come off my high horse with that one. You are right even with low sales it could have been worse and creatures did pave the way. Its interesting that kiss didnt ditch the metal sound after low sales and tour turn out.
Bye Bye
Re: Vinnie quotes
Very Goods points Brainsaw. & Yes I would have loved to hear 6 VV written tracks on Revenge. Paul & Gene certainly did ride on the tailcoat of Revenge for a long time. I mean, even Bruce's recent clinics still revolve around 'the making of Revenge'. And he doesn't give VV any credit for it, which I totally disagree with. The best songs on Revenge are the VV ones, by a long shot. Really, Gene had not been on a Single since VV departure.
VV comes back (if only as a writter), the Demon's fire is lit again. Unholy even gave Gene enough cred that he got the a second go at Singing on a Single. That dreadful, horrible Domino.
