I've been reading the Malleus Maleficarum, which begs the question:

Should the Catholic church try writers for heresy who disputed, "witches are not putting spells on people and witchcraft doesn't exist"? Trying to convince the church to think rationally was considered heretical!

Most of these "witches" were old widowed women, tortured, and burned alive instead of living out the last years of their lives peacefully. Pillars of the community were willing to blame senior citizens for a family members' ailments, knowing it was a death sentence. And a painful one, at that. People used to watch humans getting burned alive as a community event.

Are we a barbaric species? There's plenty of evidence to support it. The holocaust, infants drowned in China, humans thrown to lions for entertainment, war, Aztec sacrifices, Gladiators (slaves fighting to death in an arena for freedom), shock treatment, lobotomies, and not to mention, waterboarding.

KMA, why are you focusing on unhappy things. Good and bad things happen every day. If all you ever thought about was the bad in the world you would end up crazy, it's not worth it.

Not my words but I do believe it to be true.

There were four words that changed my whole outlook on life at one time.

"Victim or life, choose"

These are my words ... If you dont like the way something is get off your ass and try to change it. A kindness at the right moment can change someones entire life.

The Malleus Maleficarum was responsible for the execution of the innocent. I'm reading a manual for interrogating, torturing, and murdering the innocent over irrational superstitions. Why shouldn't I be disturbed?

I should feel angry that you built the straw-man fallacy to knock down the character of cynics. I do not. It's not worth the effort. Cynicism isn't anger or victim hood. It's distrust of the nature of humanity.

Do I require psychiatric help to heal my creativity? I thought the quote by Lovecraft explained it all. I'm an atheist writer, as well, with a dark imagination.

Should I seek psychiatric help for being inspired by the atrocities throughout history? Should I consider consulting a therapist for taking refuge from humanity in pen to paper?

Apparently, there is a fine thread between madness and the creative process.

An atheist, fixated on the dark things in life , very original.

So, I am always curious about atheists. Being that at its core they don't believe in any spiritual thought or the manifestation of good or evil. But that we are nothing but higher order animals with out soul or connection to anything else. I have met a few that seem to have the same odd fixation of studying why people do horrible things. I say odd, because if we are as they believe just animals at a high degree of intelligence, why would you or any atheist be surprised or look for an answer to these actions. If you are no more than a chair or empty box in the cosmic scheme of things life has no intrinsic value. There is no wrong or right just a rule that another empty box' proposed to keep the other box's in line.

I don't harm anyone, nor do I intend to.

Don't talk to me, unless you can quit calling someone names who made no personal attacks on you. Practice your intrinsic values, and treat others like you'd want to be treated.

No really I'm curious, I offered a positive thought process that may help, you accused me of using a straw man fallacy then called me an ass. Then when I asked a question gave a valid query you again as always claim victim status via tu quoque.

Not really. There is the harm you are causing others, the law, and the conscience to keep atheists from killing people en masse. Life has plenty of value aside from worshipping a God or Gods. Beauty, happiness, friends, family, etc. all give life meaning

No, criticism is not nice, but it is not a personal attack . Would you rather I criticize a behavior (assumptions) you can easily change, or call you crazy and stupid.

How dare I criticize your mighty logic? I should hang my head in shame, while you stone me for talking out of line.

I should speak softly.

I deserve humiliation,
I invited it
I should've thought you were a bully before I opened my mouth.
Shame on me.

If I told people "fuck you" for using the old "making an ass out of u and me" pun, adults would've asked me, "why are you so angry?" My attitude would've been cause for alarm.

If I called everyone names who corrected my logic, it would've been a disaster.
