Why Wasn't VV Featured On The Cover Of A Guitar Mag?
"Guitar For The Practicing Musician," "Guitar World," "Guitar Player," etc. were quite popular in the '80s. Have always wondered why Vinnie didn't get a cover feature during his post-KISS/Invasion days. (Though he did have a poster feature in GFTPM...)

I'd hazard a guess that sadly, KISS weren't as big as they deserved to be after Creatures & LIU and when solo, he was competing with Vai, Malmsteen, Satriani, Eddie, Johnny Marr (urgh! Why?) and of course the ten covers featuring Hendrix because someone found a recording of him farting in the studio!!!

If he would've stayed the course and released more recordings, he would've been on all of them !

Yes, he had the potential to be massive, with his song writing talents, along with playing and singing.
Had he kept it up it would have been impossible to ignore him.

He was off radar never featured as top 10 guitar player in polls.

In 80s he was taken seriously. I think he is more understood now actually

I still have lots of my old magazines. Lots of players got on the cover. (Even someone Mark Kendall from Great White and the guys from Warrant, who didn't even play on their first album.) I think a VV cover feature in one of the mags in 1988, prior to ASG, was a missed opportunity.
Re: Why Wasn't VV Featured On The Cover Of A Guitar Mag?
yes. he missed out. I remember even Vinnie Moore, Greg Howe, Richie Kotzen and Jason Becker got on who were not really big names to sell issues but no Vinnie. Its hard to tell why he didn't catch on. Don't forget Kiss Army was not big in 80s and not many people knew much about VV like they do now.
I find it weird even in UK where he got lots of magazine press and a kerrang covers that he was not even on cover of uk guitar magazines. He never came up as an option in polls either. Lick it up may have sold well but I don't think people who were buying it really cared too much who played on it to be honest other than die hard kiss fans. I still think his 86 glam image really killed off him being taken seriously.. too bad.

Yeah, they were all good looking guys and probably should have had a more natural look.

The momentum he had from boyz gonna rock died because of no follow up videos eg bots or substitute.
By time asg videos came out it seamed like starting over again.

In this country there's something wrong with looking like a girl. That's my official excuse for wearing jeans and not painting my faceshramiac wrote:Yeah, they were all good looking guys and probably should have had a more natural look.

Ummm no.. it was a gimmick he didnt need that backfired in my opinion. He must have agreed too as he changed look.
Yes dokken did glam up but not too the limit like vv did.
Its not the only reason he didnt get a cover though.
