Is that how much they have to pay this year just to own their own property??

yes, TM1 pay that per year in property tax (including School tax etc)

property taxes in some cities will kill you. Usually its a town that has a very good high school.

property taxes in NYC and downstate New York and the tristate area are high, depending on the town.
