Shameless Self Promotion: LIZARDS FROM AFAR

Post by erg2 »

Hey, I feel pretty comfortable now to shamelessly plug my old band.

In college I was in a punk/alt band called LIZARDS FROM AFAR. It was made up of theater majors and art majors. We did some pretty goofy stuff. I pretended to play drums and sing backing vocals...and the regrettable, occasional lead.

A few years ago we re-formed through the magic of the internet. We all live in different parts of the country, so we recorded our individual parts in our individual basements and shared the files via FTP. Once everyone had recorded their parts, the lead singer would assemble them and create a final mix.

We posted the songs on free sites like Reverbnation (and several others) because we weren't trying to make money and we weren't going to gig obviously. So it was just a fun thing for a bunch of aging farts to do on the weekends in our basements.

We are on what we call in the music biz a "hiatus"...which means that, even though we never physically saw eachother, we were fighting about the music and called it quits. We might get back together someday...

Just as a warning, this is NOT metal music. It's not KISS influenced. It's not VV influenced. There are some punk songs, there are some pop songs, there are some country songs and some songs that are "close" to being metal. Some of the stuff is rough as we experimented in how to do the "remote" recording. Some is rough because it's not very good. Some is pretty cool though.

So, check it out here. It's free to listen. It's free to download. You don't have to create an account. Just click and listen and download:

I like this quote about your 1992 live show:
The cool part about these tracks is that all the awkward silence between songs has been removed. If you play them back to back, it sounds like we are totally kickin’ ass and moving from song to song in a manner of seconds.
Makes us sound a lot more impressive than we actually were…

Stupid guitar players always insisted on tuning their one-guitar each between every song and then change effects. It didn't make for a fast paced show!

That's a hassle. Even when I used my Les Paul for live shows I didn't have to retune it the whole night, I hate that kind of annoyance. Now with the Floyds it's the same.

It is good when you can keep the gaps between songs to a minimum, save some audience interaction.

I just noticed that the URL http://www.lizardsfromafar.com had expired on our blog and needed to be remapped. Apologies to anyone that may have tried to jump over and didn't get to our blog.

Good news is anyone that wants to listen to or download any of our free music still had the good link here:
