Gene wearing a shirt onstage with my artwork!

Post by PinkWiz »

Finally found footage of Gene wearing a t-shirt with a blown up version of a caricature I did for him on the Revenge tour! I've only seen a couple of pics over the years of him wearing it... kinda odd seeing it! The only difference is the image is backwards from my original artwork. I actually did caricatures for all four of them and gave them to them at the hotel. Gene said at the time "I have plans for you"... oh well that never came to be. :| $$$$$$

Cool seeing this though!

That's hysterical considering all the times he's written on his website about how he's going to "sick their lawyers" on people that use their material without paying for it.

And I'm assuming he did not compensate you for reproducing that design on T-Shirts.

I think it was just a shirt he had custom made for himself. They were never mass produced as far as I know.

Still...he used it as a "costume" in a concert situation where he generated revenue.
It shouldn't be a big deal. You gave him the design...all I'm saying is that he's a hypocrite. He wants the rules to apply to him when they benefit him and ignore them when it suits him. It's part of his egocentric, egomaniacal take on life. It all revolves around Gene.

Great design the Wiz that is P!nk...Should have given him a design of you holding the Raygun & told him to wear that. Yep, all those guys are the same. I remember my wife was working in a Gothy, Glam/ Women high end lLngerie store on Oxford St, Sydney call 'House of Fetish'. She'd get customers like Kylie Minogue, the Prodigy, Tea Party,Marylin Manson, Megan Gale & heaps of wardrobe people who would rent stuff for film clips & fashion shows. One day she told be how Tara Moss came into the shop & pretty much demand free stuff cause she was, ah, well 'Tara Moss'. They told her no. A lot of rich people just have this idea that they have the right to things for free, that others need to pay for. On the up side she told be how nice Megan Gale was.
That was good news cause Megan Gale to me is like the ultimate in hotness.

Most think its enough as a fan to see them sporting the shirt onstage... Bruce Kulick and Dee Snider were the same way. Trying to make a living at it and remaining a good little fanboy most of the time doesnt go hand in hand. Dee and his manager got annoyed when I asked for a measly $300 to design a tour shirt... as if to say is it not enough just being a fan?

Bruce did send me a cassette copy of Carnival of Souls before its official release two years later which was kinda cool but doesnt pay the bills.

It's cool he used your shirt. I am confused to why he should pay to wear it though. Am I missing something? Very talented.

The original artwork was not on a shirt... I gave it to him as a full 2 ft caricature based on wood and he had it printed on a shirt.

Having said that, I don't think he should've paid just to wear it for personal use. If the artwork was reproduced then sold for profit in mass quantities then THAT would piss me off... but technically I suppose I could do nothing since it's considered a gift.

I got nothin' to complain about though because a couple years later KISS did fly me and my brother to the Roseland Ballroom KISS Convention in NYC in July of '95 after winning an art contest that Gene judged in Livewire Magazine for "Best KISS Artwork" (which included an ESP Explorer presented to me onstage during Bruce's guitar clinic so I wasn't too bummed! I still play it til this day!)

Yeah, how cool is that! What an awesome prize.

If you won that with Vinnie you'd still be being asked to patiently wait for your gift to arrive.

The Official Kiss Conventions of 1995. My name is in the Metal Edge Kiss magazine at the time that announced the winners. Tommy Thayer called the house and said they will be sending me release forms and if they weren't turned in within two weeks , I would forfeit the guitar.
I sent in the forms. After a while , I got nervous and resent them with a note that expressed my concerns.

My guitar arrived a few days later.

A week or so goes by. While I was getting ready for college one morning, my parents called me into their room and told me to go into their closet. I saw the cardboard E.S.P. box my guitar was in and thought they wanted me to take it out to the trash. I picked the box up to find it was heavy and it contained another guitar.

E.S.P. Guitars sent me two Vintage plus guitars!!!!
I was going to send one back but then came up with the conclusion that everyone else won a SIGNATURE Kiss instrument ,so, by me receiving two guitars , it evened the score.

This isn't my guitar , but this is what both of them look like :
