Tate Officially OUT of Queensryche
http://www.billboard.com/news/exclusive ... 1752.story
The Wilton / Rockenfield / Jackson camp were very clever about how they went about this.
Let us assume that Tate, Wilton, Rockenfield and Jackson all owned the name Queensryche together.
For quite awhile now Tate has been steering the ship creatively. The others have been content to let him do so (bad move). Maybe / maybe not - they tried at certain points to pull back on the course and were met with resistance from the Tate camp (who cleverly put their relatives in management positions). So they laid back and waited.
Knowing that trying to wrestle the name from Tate straight up would result in a long fight they basically 'devalued' the name (or let Tate devalue it with his creative input) by creating Rising West but still claiming they were in QR.
Now they have an outlet for what they want to do without battling over the QR name.
What is Tate to do? Fire them? Could he even do that?
Now QR exists but RW also exists and fans are flocking to it.
What happens then when QR goes out on the road and people are no longer there because they are all going to RW shows?
QR suddenly starts not getting booked for shows and being paid the money they used to get.
Meanwhile RW is still getting bookings and growing fast gobbling up all the money and fans QR used to have even though QR still exists.
Could Tate sue on the grounds that RW was knowingly 'devaluing' the QR name. I suppose he could but that would mean a long protracted legal battle. That costs money for all involved.
Plus, he would not have much of a leg to stand on seeing as that he himself has done solo tours.
The RW camp could say they are just doing the same.
Tate has stated that he is well invested, so he must be covered on his end no matter what.
So he's done the only thing he could do at this point.
Opt out and hope from his end that whatever the new QR is falls flat and the fans start wanting him back no matter what.
My guess is that he still might own some portions of QR and there was an agreement made in order for him to leave.
OR he just left and let them have it all.
Whatever the case may be the Wilton / Rockenfield / Jackson camp played this very well.
Now it's up to them to deliver a good album.

Re: Tate Officially OUT of Queensryche
I am only a casual QR fan, so I don't really know all that much...but haven't they been on a downward slide since the mid-90s?

Looks like they have done well. Wasn't a big fan of American Soldier, or even Mindcrime 2.

Re: Tate Officially OUT of Queensryche
I had friends that saw them in concert during their big heyday on the tour for Empire. Apparently Tate spent more time preening and posing for pictures than he did singing or entertaining.
Guy had a great voice. I'll give him that.

I saw them many times in there hey day. I heard they sometimes didn't let opening acts soundcheck back then.

They kicked ass with queen of the Reich and operation mindcrime.
Bye Bye
Re: Tate Officially OUT of Queensryche
Funny thing is no one talked about Michael wilton and Eddie Jackson in the 80s. Geoff and Chris were the guys and scott got some thumbs up in the drumming world. To see them without geoff and chris is kind of like gene ans Paul leaving kiss.
Bye Bye
Re: Tate Officially OUT of Queensryche
Yeah...what would KISS have sounded like if Ace & Peter had kicked Gene & Paul out of the band?

Queensryche without Geoff Tate. Nooooooo....
Live life as though it is the third law; "to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." Rules apply whether we are cognizant of them or oblivious.
Re: Tate Officially OUT of Queensryche
Geoff hockin' a loogie on Scott @ 3:57... me thinks too much wine. Scott either didn't see it or is just way more passive than I could ever be...I would've clogged his throat with a drumstick:

Re: Tate Officially OUT of Queensryche
Geez, that is WRONG!!!! Who does that to a band member. He should have gotten a stick to the head for starters after that. I guess keeping the show going for the fans is important but surely that would have had repurcussions after the show.

Something very unlikable about Geoff in this even without spitting at his drummer

Geoff needs to let that gay gay man out. Holding it in so long as made him a very bitter queen(ryche)
I got Jesus in my fax machine. I saw Ho Chi Minh down @ Burger King. I dated Vinnie Vincent as a Drag Queen. I still don't understand a f**kin' thing.
I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass and I'm all out of bubble gum.

Re: Tate Officially OUT of Queensryche
Went to the Empire tour and loved it. Saw them open for Metallica on the Mindcrime tour = AWESOME.
I have heard things on both sides that makes both sides sound like assholes. Fuck them all and let the ship sink if they can't address things as men and be cool.
You too Vinnie.

I understand how hard it must be to keep 4-6 grown men with creative aspirations getting along with eachother...but then I have to think, "Hey...you're getting paid good money to play rock music for people that think you shit gold nuggets. Shut the fuck up and get back to playing!"
