I have no doubt Django Reinhardt had an influence on a lot of shredders but Vinnie's solos were two ways he ether stuck to the melody in a ambient way or it was lost there was not a lot of controlled mixing of the two during the solo. At times he treated a lot of his solos like a completely different song. Gypsy jazz is most all liner melodic soloing tied to the song through out there's no real separation, where say you would have verse chorus solo verse chorus.

I feel he was trying to do something different all together at the GFH time but was still working it out. I would like to hear were it went or if he abandoned it and went back to melodic playing.

Always thought it was a no brainer that there was a bit of Django in Vinnie! Amazing stuff.

I think it's notable that Django for the most part played all solos with two fingers...

Vinnie played all of his solos with the middle finger of his heart.

You are correct. Vinnie did tap with the middle finger of his right hand! :)
