After listening to an album so many times, you start to pick up on a bunch of random little musical things. Here's a list of random bits about "All Systems Go":
- The outro for"Deeper And Deeper" goes through three different tonal centers, moving step-wise from C, D to E
- Vinnie name drops lots of classic rock song titles/references in his songs:
"My little raven's back in black, dressed to kill"
'Pandora's box just cracked/All hell's breaking' loose"
"She's a live wire/Like dynamite, she's TNT"
"Band of gypsies/Young blood on the rise"
"Live by the gun/Ace's high"
- That little walk-up riff before the chorus in "Dirty Rhythm" is reminiscent of the walk-up riff in AC/DC's "Back In Black"
- Vinnie's tapping part on "Heavy Pettin'" moves up through a series of major chords -- D major, E major, F major, G major, Ab major and Bb major -- before resolving down to A for the solo.
- To my ears, the lush background vocals on the album remind me a bit of the BVs on "Hysteria." Very layered. I wonder if that's what Dana and Vinnie were going for.
- "Ya Know I'm Pretty Shot" quotes a small bit "I Wish I Was In Dixie"
- "Love Kills" and "That Time Of Year" are both based around the key center of D minor
- The first-half solo for "Ashes To Ashes" is based around a II-V-I progression. Standard procedure for jazz but not so much for rock.
- The riff from "Let Freedom Rock" was borrowed from Sin's "On The Run"
- The intro to "Burn" quotes the intro to "Bad Motor Scooter" by Montrose. This effect was also used by Mick Mars for "Kickstart My Heart," which came out in '89.
Anyone else have any random observations about "All Systems Go"?
